Arts and Sciences

Master of Arts in English Degree. This program is designed to meet the educational needs of persons aspiring to professional advancement in the teaching of English or in other professions requiring advanced degrees in the discipline, as well as those students preparing for advanced study at the Ph.D. level.

Master of Science in Criminal Justice Degree. This program is intended to meet the educational needs of professionals who wish to serve in federal, state and local agencies within the criminal justice system.

Business
Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA). This program is designed for students who wish to prepare for professional careers in business, industry, or government, or for further graduate study. Courses within the program also may be applied to the enhancement of individual knowledge and competencies. Several concentrations are available: Accounting, Information Systems, International Business, Management, Marketing, New Venture Management, and an Executive Option (weekend program only). Delivery options include: traditional classroom, online, weekend, or on-site industry-sponsored groups.

Education
Master of Arts in Education degree with majors in counseling, elementary education K-6, secondary education, including P-12 education (selected teaching fields), educational administration, and special education: collaborative teacher K-6; 6-12. For persons who hold the appropriate Alabama Class B professional certificate and who have completed the teaching experience as specified, program completion may qualify them for recommendation for the Alabama Class A professional certificate. Master of Arts in Education degree for alternative fifth-year students in P-12 education and secondary education. Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling and Non-School-Based Teaching, Health, Physical Education and Recreation, individually tailored programs of study designed for professionals who seek personal development and career enhancement. Education Specialist degree for persons seeking a Class AA professional certificate in Educational Administration. Persons seeking the Class AA certificate must hold the Class A certificate in educational administration.

The programs of graduate studies are offered by the University of North Alabama through its colleges of arts & sciences, business, and education under the direction of the deans of the colleges and the overall administration, coordination, and supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, according to policies, procedures, and programs established by the Graduate Council and approved by the President and the Board of Trustees.

The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and School to award bachelor's, master's and education specialist degrees. The University holds specialized accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Council on Social Work Education (Baccalaureate), the National League for Nursing, the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs. UNA is certified by The American Chemical Society.

Nursing

The Master of Science in Nursing online program at the University of North Alabama is a post-baccalaureate degree program consisting of two tracks: “Nursing in Teaching-Learning Environments” and “Nursing Leadership in Organizational Environments.” The program is completely online in an asynchronous format.

The “Teaching-Learning” track will equip registered nurses with tools that will enable them to facilitate the education of nursing students, health care clients, and health care colleagues. The graduate will be qualified to serve as a faculty member in an institution of higher learning and serve as an educator in the clinical environment. The program will allow students to select a clinical area of interest (adult health, women’s health, pediatrics, etc.) upon which to focus during his/her matriculation.

The “Leadership” track will prepare registered nurses who will function at an advanced level in the health care environment regarding politics and legislation, budgeting and economics, and leadership and management, such that these nurses may positively impact the management aspects of nursing and health care in society.  For more information please visit the College of Nursing Website
