Early Scholars

Deadline for Receipt of Credentials and Application for Admission for registration for the 2010 Spring Semester is NOVEMBER 15, 2009!

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors who rank above average in academic achievement may, upon the written recommendation of their principals or guidance counselors, be admitted for approved coursework. Early scholars who are high school juniors or seniors are allowed to enroll in up to five hours per semester at no cost, on a space available basis. Cost definition includes tuition only. Early scholars are still subject to any special fees such as applied music fees, technology fees, health fees, etc.

Students in grades 7-9 who are certified in writing as gifted by their principal and local superintendent of education may be admitted for approved coursework. Early scholars with admission credentials received after the deadline of November 15, 2009 will be considered for registration on a case-by-case basis. For those in grades 7-10, tuition and various fees are the responsibility of the student.

How to Become an Early Scholar:

  1. Talk to your guidance counselor. Since you are probably doing this for high school credit, you must first find out the exact procedure you need to follow with your high school. In addition to the forms needed for the high school, additional paperwork is required by UNA. Consulting with your guidance counselor FIRST will save you time.
  2. To apply as an Early Scholar, UNA will need the undergraduate application (apply online or download the application), a $25 application fee, the Early Scholar Approval Form, and your official high school transcript.

Early Scholars are limited to 100 and 200 level classes. Students cannot request a mathematics or an English class without a sufficient ACT or SAT score. The Early Scholar Approval Form must be completed, approved, and submitted to UNA each semester the student plans to enroll in the program.
