John Turner received his MFA in Studio Art from the University of Memphis. His undergraduate degree, also from the University of Memphis, is in Zoology with a minor in English Literature. Before entering graduate school at the University of Memphis, he completed a wide variety of art classes, both undergraduate and graduate, at the University of New Orleans.
Previous to becoming a university professor he worked as a professional designer for several international corporations, an artist, and a short stint as a middle school and high school science and physics teacher.
Professor Turner gained a great deal of experience in the real (or unreal) world of the street artist, living and working in the French Quarter of New Orleans, selling watercolors along the beach steps of Torremolinas, Spain, and palette knife paintings on the Leidseplein of Amsterdam, Holland.
