TELEPHONE SERVICE
The University operates its own telephone system. The university exchange is 256-765-4100. Each campus telephone has a four-digit number, as listed in the University Directory, and calls within the campus are made by dialing the four numbers. Outside calls are made by dialing "9" waiting for the dial tone, then dialing the number desired.
The University is on the Alabama Tandem Telecommunications Network (ATTNet), and all long-distance calls must be made through the system. The system permits long-distance direct dialing for (1) on-network calls--persons and offices in all state departments, agencies, and institutions, as listed in the State of Alabama Telephone Directory; and (2) official off-network calls. Codes, numbers, and procedures for use of the ATTNet line are contained in the Directory. Individual Faculty ATTNet codes may be obtained from the Dean of Information Technologies Office located in Collier Library.
New employees should seek orientation in the use of the telephone system. Each office
must maintain an accurate record of all long-distance calls in order to verify the
monthly billings and charge-backs to the cost center.

A: On the Cortelco telephones, press FLASH, enter the 4 digit number, and hang-up.
A: On the Nortel 8003 telephone, press LINK and enter the 4 digit number.
A: On the Nortel Display phone, press TRANSFER enter the number and press TRANSFER again.

A: Push 33 when the message starts and it will take you to the end. You can save it by pressing 9, delete it by pressing 7.

A: Your 4 digit extension, except when sharing multi-voice mail boxes on the same line.
