Gerontology Certificate Program
In America, and specifically in North Alabama,
our population is aging and more and more
elderly are choosing to locate here. This means
more job opportunities for those specializing in
geriatric care.
As our area continues to grow and attract new
residents, health care professionals must position
themselves as an asset-a vital component of
community resources for retirees. That means
we must become gerontology experts in
Northwest Alabama!
As a participant in this credit bearing
program, you will:
• Work through a varied curriculum
related to the diverse aspects of the field
of gerontology
• Conduct research and gain hands-on
experience
• Receive a certificate that recognizes
your expertise in this expanding field
This Certificate is for:
• Health care professionals who desire
additional education and training in the
field of gerontology
• Professionals who are already in the
field whether in a home health,
hospice, assisted living or nursing home
setting who seek additional credentials
• Individuals considering a career in
gerontology
• Regular university students who desire
a special focus in gerontology
Course Requirements:
• Students must make application to
UNA.
• Some prerequisites are required;
however, these will be determined on
an individual basis depending on
education and/or work related
experience.
• Complete six required courses and 2
electives for a total of 24 hours. All
courses are either on-line or on video.
No class attendance required!
