Basic Skills test

Update: Beginning with the 2011-2012 testing year, the APTTP Basic Skills Assessment Study Guide will be available for continuous download via the Web site at www.act.org/alabamapttp.

1.  Go to www.act.org/alabamapttp

2.  Read the instructions and follow directions that explain how to
     register, study for, and take the Basic Skills test. You must pass all
      three parts of the exam: Reading, Writing, and Math.
The
     minimum passing score set by the Alabama State Department of
     Education is Level 4 for Mathematics and Reading and Level 3 for
     Writing.  You must pass all three parts of the Basic Skills
      test
BEFORE being admitted to UNA's Teacher Education
      Program (TEP).

 

The cost of taking the in-state Reading, Writing, and Mathematics exams in combination are currently $98.00

Update: Beginning October 2011, out-of-state testing will be made available to all APTTP Basic Skills Assessment test candidates. Out-of-state testing will occur in ACT Centers that are available nationwide. Out-of-state testing will be specifically arranged through the APTTP Web site and will occur on the Friday preceding the published Saturday test date. General information regarding the registration process may be found in the 2011-2012 registration bulletin and in the list of Frequently Asked Questions that will be made available via the APTTP Basic Skills Assessment Web site at www.act.org/alabamapttp.

The cost of taking the out-of-state Reading, Writing, and Mathematics exams in combination are currently $178.00

PRAXIS II (subject area) test

1. All PRAXIS II exams accepted by the Alabama
    State Department of Education can be found on
    this webpage (listed by major):
    http://www.ets.org/praxis/al/requirements 

2.  To register for  PRAXIS II exam, go to
      www.ets.org/praxis.
    
    a) Under "State Testing Requirements" change the
        state to Alabama and click GO.

    b) Read all of the information provided regarding
        the PRAXIS II tests. At the bottom of the page you should click
        "Register for a Test" to get registered for the PRAXIS II exam in
        your area of certification.

This test is offered on the UNA campus
every April, June, and November.

The test schedule for 2011-2012 is as follows:

Anyone registering during the “Extended” or “Emergency” deadlines will be charged additional late fees.

*The following tests will be administered only three (3) times during the 2011-2012 Testing Year:

*0100 Business Education
*0173 French Content Knowledge
*0181 German Content Knowledge
*0191 Spanish Content Knowledge

You are responsible for having your score report sent to UNA and the ALSDE. If you do not request a score report for these recipients, it could cost you an additional $35 fee with ETS. Request that your score report be sent to UNA 1735 and AL State Department 7020.


You must pass the PRAXIS II test for your area of certification BEFORE student internship.
