Undergraduate Program

The Department of Secondary Education offers teacher education programs for grades 6-12 in the following areas: biology, business and marketing education, chemistry, English/language arts, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), family and consumer science, French, general science, geography, German, history, mathematics, physics, social science, and Spanish.

In addition, P-12 teacher programs are offered in visual arts, instrumental music, choral music, and physical education.

To qualify for a recommendation for teacher certification, candidates must complete the approved major in the teaching field and must complete a second major in education in lieu of a minor.

Graduate Program

For persons who hold the appropriate Alabama Class B professional certificate and who have completed the teaching experience as specified, program completion may qualify them for recommendation for the Alabama Class A professional certificate.
