Mega-Producer Norbert Putnam at the DEI

Department of Entertainment Industry - The Department of Entertainment Industry hosted producer/musician/studio owner Norbert Putnam on September 24th.

 

Norbert Putnam, famous for producing Jimmy Buffet's song Margaritaville,  as well as a long list of hits by the likes of Dan Fogelberg (Home Free) and Joan Baez (The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down) is a UNA alumni and native of the Shoals area.

The students in attendance were able to converse with and ask questions about Mr. Putnam and his career in the music business. Mr. Putnam related his experience in the music business as a session bass player at FAME recording studios and, later, relocating to Nashville.

Mr. Putnam also told of his first meeting with industry veteran Clive Davis and producing Jimmy Buffet's Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes album.

Student-Run Record Label and  DEI Students Win Big at the 2008 Muscle Shoals Music Awards

Singing River Records artist Lee Taylor wins EP of the Year at this year's Muscle Shoals Music Awards. Singing River Records, the student-run record label at the Department of Entertainment Industry, released "Someone Like Me" in December 2007 after signing Taylor to a record contract and producing his EP.
