Subsequent to the unanimous action by the Board of Directors for the University of North Alabama at its official public meeting on April 16, 2004, the Legacy Society has been created. Overarching purposes of the Society are to recognize and express appreciation to individuals who have made planned gifts to the Foundation and to encourage others to make this special type of philanthropic investment. Planned gifts are typically made during the life of the donor to the charity, in this case the Foundation and the University, benefiting the charity upon the death of the donor. Included among planned gifts are charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities, life insurance, bequests, and living trusts. Given the legal, tax, and financial importance and complexity of many planned gifts, the UNA Foundation recommends that individuals interested in making planned gifts to the UNA Foundation should consult with their legal, tax, and financial advisors, as well as the UNA Foundation staff.
A listing of those individuals who, by making a planned gift to the UNA Foundation, become members of the Legacy Society will be presented in publications and other appropriate communications. Within the Legacy Society, special recognition will be given to those individuals who have made a planned gift to the UNA Foundation before the Society was founded and through the first year of the Society's existence.
The ensuring text will be used in official Foundation and University publications to describe the Legacy Society:
There are two traits in particular that distinguish the singular purpose of the enlightened human spirit; the desire to be remembered by future generations and the desire to serve those one may never see.
This sense of purpose also distinguishes the alumni and friends who are members of the University of North Alabama Legacy Society. Each member has made a planned gift or has remembered the University of North Alabama in his/her will in order to strengthen the University's educational mission for generations to come.
If you have or your family has made a planned gift to the UNA Foundation, please let us know so that we can ensure inclusion in the listing of Founding Members of the Legacy Society. Further, if you or your family are giving consideration to making a planned gift to the UNA Foundation and might like additional information about the process, parameters, and benefits, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
