Greetings from the Director:

Welcome to the UNA Honors Program web site. If you believe that college should be fun—both in and outside the classroom—then read on!

The Honors Program seeks an exceptional group of students each year for a one of a kind college experience.  Our admissions process is  selective. We limit the size of the entering class so that each student may receive a highly personalized college education. However, we will always make room for qualified students who have a real desire to be in the Program.

The Program curriculum consists of a four year sequence of courses leading to a B.A. or B.S. with “University Honors.”  Honors students take a mix of honors and regular coursework while benefiting from co-curricular programming including travel opportunities paid for by the Honors Program. Our faculty are dedicated to teaching, learning, and student development. We put students first—always.

The most rewarding college experience will also be the most enjoyable. College should be fun, and we want students to take every opportunity to learn and grow while at UNA. Our typical student is not in a hurry to finish college but wants to make the most of the experience. Academics are only one part of college life, and while we are looking for academic excellence in our students, we also look for talents in other areas as well, including leadership, athletics, creative performance, and public service.

The Honors Program is open to students in all majors and colleges. We strongly encourage participation from students in Business, Nursing, and Education as well as Arts & Sciences.  Our campus home is in Lafayette Hall. Students are not required to live in Lafayette, but all Honors students have access to the amenities of the Honors Center while in the Program.

The University of North Alabama has a rich tradition of academic and athletic success. Founded in 1830, we are the oldest university in the state of Alabama. UNA has always combined quality academics with a friendly atmosphere. The 2008 U.S. News & World Report Guide to America's Best Colleges ranked UNA in the top tier of Master's institutions in the South.

There are many additional benefits to participating in the Honors Program, including scholarships that increase each year the student remains in the Program. If you are the type of student who wants academic excellence in a supportive environment, the Honors Program at UNA may be the place for you.

Come visit and see for yourself.

Sincerely,

Vince Brewton, Ph.D.
