4th Annual Memphis Road Trip is today!

May 8

Have a great summer!

Don't forget to turn in a housing application if you want to live in Lafayette and to let me know your choice of roommate.

Nashville Trip

If you missed the Nashvegas trip you missed out! This one will go into the rotation for future years.

February 14

Happy Valentine's Day to all

  • Check out the HP's own David MacMillan laying down the corny pick up lines in today's Times Daily . . .

  • The trip to Nashville is a go. We will be staying in the Courtyard by Marriott (Opryland).

  • Major props go out to the Class of 2011's Natalie Holland who will be doing an alternative Spring Break at the Grand Canyon in March.

  • Also most mad props go out to Class of 2009's Holly Widick who scored a summer internship at Kansas State University in Residence/Student Life.

  • It's not too late to participate in the Book Club for the semester. If you ordered a copy, please stop by and pick it up.

  • Please give active consideration to some volunteer work in the community this semester. If you are following the new Honors Curriculum (sophomores only), you must do community service each semester.

  • The Ireland trip itinerary has changed to include Scotland and England as well. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 22nd. If you want to go, the HP will chip in a small scholarship. Trip Details . . .

January 8

Welcome Back!

As you return to campus, please let me know how things are with you and your goals for the semester. It's especially a good time to be firming up plans for a productive summer. Any student studying abroad this summer will receive some scholarship support from the HP. It may not be much, but it will help.

Study Abroad in Ireland

Scholarship applications are due by JANUARY 20.  (Not much time left...)
Trip enrollment deadline is FEBRUARY 15.   Link . . .

Dinner & a Movie

Our first D & M will be Thursday evening, January 17th at 6 pm in the Lafayette Commons. Our kickoff feature will be Little Miss Sunshine. Let Becky or me know if you can make it. The HP will provide food, but we have to know a head count.

This event is free and is sponsored as part of the Distinguished Events Series Committee.  Please feel free to invite friends.

Shoals Area a Safe Place to Live

The Times Daily reports the Shoals area is one of the safest places in the U.S., according to the FBI. Read more .  .  .

Spring Semester Book Club

Our text for the Spring reading group will be Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder. This book tells the (at times) unbelievable story of Paul Farmer, M.D., a doctor who would "heal the world." It's a great read, and the HP will purchase a copy for anyone who wants to participate. Our meeting to discuss the book will be after Spring Break, so please join us.

Welcome Home Prodigal Son!

Please give a hearty welcome to Matt Bradley when you see him (or email him) and welcome Matt back from two semesters abroad in Germany and Austria.

Julius Caesar

Join the HP as we rock the house at the Aquila Theater Company's production of Julius Caesar, Monday, Feb. 11th at 7 pm. The HP will pay for your ticket!!!! Please let me know as soon as possible if you wish to attend.

New Staff

If you haven't stopped by Lafayette to meet our new HP staff member, Becky Brazeel, please drop in and say hello.
