Dwight Bunn graduated from Auburn University in 1972 and began a career as a commercial artist in Birmingham, Alabama. He later taught art and design at Southern Union State Community College while pursuing an M.S. degree in Textile Design at Auburn University completing the degree in 1982.

Bunn received an M.S. degree in interior design from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1986. He was a graduate assistant at UT directing studio courses in 2-D and 3-D design principles, residential design, commercial design and technical drawing/drafting.

After graduating from UT, Mr. Bunn worked with a contract design firm and later served as the interior design director at an architectural/interiors firm.

From 1989 to 1999, Mr. Bunn taught interior design in the College of Human Sciences, Department Consumer Affairs at Auburn University. Areas of interest in teaching included studio courses at all undergraduate levels, codes and accessibility standards, lighting design and specialized in advanced contract studios. While teaching at Auburn, the Interior Design program in the College of Human Sciences received its first CIDA accreditation.

In 1999 joined the Human Environmental Sciences Department at the University of North Alabama. He has served as the faculty advisor to the ASID and NKBA student organizations at UNA and represents the Alabama Chapter of NKBA as Vice President of Endorsed College Programs. He is a Certified Kitchen Educator (CKE) and is a registered Interior Designer in the State of Alabama, and is a certificate holder of NCIDQ since 1995.

Bunn teaches introduction to interior design, space planning, visual presentation, residential design and codes and accessibility. He has also taught CAD and lighting design.
