Alice Cook
Alice
received her baccalaureate degree from the University of North Alabama
and her master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Ms. Cook is trained in teaching English to students of other languages.
She is a member of the TESOL Organization, AMTESOL, Sigma Tau Delta
(English Honor Society), and Phi Beta Delta (International Honor
Society), and has presented at various conferences within those and
other organizations.
Ms. Cook has taught IEP classes at the University of North Alabama since 2004. Prior to teaching at UNA, Ms. Cook taught IEP and ESL classes at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Ms. Cook’s research interest focuses on second language acquisition and cognitive functions, specifically those associated with learning and memory.
Reeda Lee
Reeda
Lee, a UNA CELL Instructor since 2002, has twenty-two years of
university teaching experience. She holds a B.S. in English and Office
Administration from the University of North Alabama, an M.A. in English
from the University of New Orleans, and a TESOL Certificate from the
University of Alabama in Huntsville. Ms. Lee was the Head of the
Department of Language Arts at Chattanooga State Technical Community
College, responsible for remedial/developmental English and Reading
courses. Her research interests include reading comprehension and
vocabulary building studies.
Zeynep Ayasli
Zeynep
Ayasli is an exchange teacher from Maltepe University; Turkey. She
enjoys working at UNA because it gives her the opportunity to teach
individuals from various cultures around the world. She is using her
own learning experiences to suit her teaching methodology to those who
are acquiring English as a second language. She received a B.A in Media
and Communication Systems from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2002 and an
M.A in Radio, Television, and Cinema from Maltepe University in 2006.
She completed her training as a teacher in Oxford in 2004 with
Cambridge University by completing CELTA (Certificate of English
Language Teaching). She has also completed a diploma program with the
Cambridge University in 2006, DELTA (Diploma of English Language
Teaching for Adults) in (ITI) Istanbul Teaching Institute.
She began working in the CELL department in January 2007 as a visiting instructor. She has been teaching ESL (English as a second language) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) for five years in Maltepe University where she is also in charge of the Testing and Material Development for the Undergraduate Programs.
Crystal Maness
Crystal
Maness has been teaching with the Center for English Language Learning
since 2004. She has taught Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Grammar at
various levels. Prior to working with UNA, she taught P-12 ESL in the
Alabama Public School System. In addition to teaching, Crystal
coordinates the CELL Multimedia Lab. In the spring of 2007, Crystal
worked as an exchange teacher with Maltepe University, Istanbul, Turkey.
Crystal received her B.A. in English and Spanish with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of North Alabama. She completed her M.A. in Education with TESOL certification at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Crystal decided to become an ESL teacher after her parents moved abroad in 2000. She uses her parents’ experience as well as her own experience studying in Mexico and Spain to better understand the students and their needs. She enjoys teaching in the multicultural classes at UNA and learning from her students as she teaches them. In her free time, she enjoys reading, yoga, and martial arts.
Carlene Blackburn
Carlene
Blackburn has been an English instructor at The University of North
Alabama since 1990 and an instructor in the ESL program since 1995. She
also taught at Northwest-Shoals Community College and Faulkner College.
She taught Freshman Composition, World Literature, and American
Literature. In ESL, she has taught Speaking, Listening, Reading, and
Grammar in every level. Currently, she is teaching Speaking and
Listening, particularly note taking and pronunciation. She enjoys
reading, geocaching, and hiking.
