HONDURAS Nursing Study Abroad

This course is designed to give nursing students an opportunity for nursing students to gain first-hand knowledge of health, health care delivery, nursing education and cultural aspects in a country outside the United States. Students must, at a minimum, have successfully completed first semester nursing courses: NU 301, NU 302, and NU 305. Preference will be given to students who have successfully completed second semester nursing courses: NU 304, NU 306, and NU 308.

  • Cost: Approximately $1200, which includes airfare, room, board, transportation in country, translators, etc

  • Accommodations: Camp-type facility, with dorm rooms, indoor plumbing, and with food cooked by Hondurans who know how to please all tastes.

London Study Abroad

The UNA London Campus Program is designed for advanced undergraduates and graduate students interested in undertaking substantial research in British Studies. Students live and work in historic Bloomsbury in Central London minutes from cultural, educational and historical sites known the world over. This one month, six-credit hour faculty-led experience takes London as its classroom and allows students to be totally immersed in British culture and the scholarly life.

Dominican Republic Alternative Break Abroad

Orphanage Outreach/Outreach 360: Students will be submerged in a diverse culture while teaching English, literacy and public health in local grade schools. Spend time changing children's lives at Hope of a Child Orphanage in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. This trip is through Alternative Break Board (www.una.edu/abb), which is a Recognized Student Organization through Student Engagement.

CHINA Study Abroad

AFRICA Study Abroad

The Africa Study Abroad Program at the University of North Alabama (UNA) is conducted by faculty at the Department of Geography. It is directed by Dr. Francis Koti and Dr. Greg Gaston. Under this program, UNA students travel to an African country accompanied by the two professors and learn about the geography of Africa through travel and personal experiences. At this time, the country of focus is Tanzania in East Africa. Major program highlights include: urban dynamics and economic activities in the cities of Arusha and Dar es Salaam; urban and rural land use in Tanzania; Ngorongoro crater and other volcanic features in the East African Rift Valley; Olduvai Gorge; Lake Natron; Engare Sero River gorge and waterfall; settlement in the Rift Valley; the Island of Zanzibar, and the historical geography of the East African coast. The program will take place during the May Intersession in 2012.

The program is a nine-day intensive visit to Paris, the capital of France. A particular effort has been made to balance cultural and educational experiences with typical tourist activities such as shopping and dining.
