conferred upon
WILLIAM LINDSEY MCDONALD
by the
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA
May 13, 2006
You are known throughout the Shoals for your exhaustive knowledge of this area's history. We are proud today to include you in the history of the University of North Alabama as we honor an alumnus and friend. You have dedicated much of your life to researching and collecting historical information about the Shoals area. Without doubt, your extensive research and personal collection of historical documents are beyond compare. You continue to amaze the citizens of northwest Alabama with your wealth of historical knowledge, and particularly, you have rendered valuable service to your alma mater over the years with your research and documentation on the establishment of the University of North Alabama in 1830. You are an analyst, an author of prestigious books and articles, a devoted historian and researcher, and a gentlemen.
We also give tribute for your thirty-eight years of military service to our country, including your U.S. Army tours in World War II and the Korean War and your work at the Pentagon. We applaud your personal convictions, your faith, and your willingness to assist persons or organizations who seek to learn more about the past. We are pleased to add this honor to the numerous awards and commendations you have received over the years. It is with great pleasure, therefore, that the University of North Alabama, by the unanimous action of its Board of Trustees, confers upon you the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, with all the rights and privileges thereunto appertaining.
