- How do I find a book?
UNACAT is the library's online catalog which holds records for our entire collection. The catalog can be searched by author, title, subject, call number or keyword. For more detailed instructions for searching UNACAT click here.
- How do I renew a book online?
You can renew a book online if it is not overdue. To do this, go to UNACAT and click on the "My Account (Renew)" tab at the top of the page. You will then be prompted to enter your barcode number and your last name.
- How do I find journal articles?
The library provides access to over 100 databases to help you identify and locate journal articles. These resources are listed on the Databases page. The listings are arranged alphabetically and by subject. Many of these databases provide full-text articles, that is, articles that you can view online.
- How do I print from the computers in Collier Library?
1) You will need your MANE card to pay for printing.
2) When you are ready to print, click on the "Print" tab on the menu bar across the top of the computer screen. A pop-up box will prompt you to enter a name for your print job. You can use your name or any word which will help you identify your print job at the printer.
3) Go to the printer and swipe your MANE card. On the computer screen next to the printer, you will now see a list of print jobs. Click on the name of your print job, then click "Print".Ten cents per page will be deducted from your MANE card balance. If you need to add more funds to your MANE card, you can do this in the Periodicals Area (near the copying machines). Learn more about the MANE card.
- How do I access databases from home?
You can gain access to most of the databases if you are a student or employee of the University of North Alabama. Go to the Databases page and click on the database of your choice. You will be prompted to enter your UNA Portal username and password. The system will then allow you to use the databases. - How do I sign up for library instruction classes?
Library instruction classes are offered to students, faculty and the community. For more information on scheduling a class click here.
- How do I find the phone number for...?
The telephone number for Collier Library is 256-765-4241. You can also call a specific department directly. Please refer to our departmental directory. Telephone numbers for the library's faculty and staff are listed here.
- How do I borrow a book from another library?
Interlibrary loan is a service for obtaining materials that are not available in the University of North Alabama libraries. Materials needed for study and research, such as books and government publications, may be borrowed from other libraries. Photocopies of journal articles can be acquired as well. Full- and part-time UNA faculty members, emeritus faculty, university staff, and currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students, both those enrolled on campus and those in the distance learning program, are eligible to use the interlibrary loan service. - How do I open an e-mail account?
Students and employees of the University of North Alabama are automatically assigned a UNA Portal e-mail account. The UNA Portal web site at https://unaportal.una.edu/ is a secure site which provides UNA students, faculty and administrative staff with world-class Intranet and Internet services. You may check e-mail, check your class schedule, check grades, register for class, access your personal and school calendar, access course homepages and interact with your professors and classmates all through UNA Portal.
UNA Portal Username: your username will be your first and middle initials followed by your last name. Where duplicates exist, an additional number is added to your last name.
Example: Jane S. Doe would have the username jsdoe
John S. Doe would have the username jsdoe1
UNA Portal Password: your password is initially set to your PIN number. For most individuals, this is your date of birth (2-digit month + 2-digit day + 2-digit year). For example, if were born on May 8, 1977 your initial password would be "050877"
Note: You must click on the "OK" button and not the "enter" key after keying username and password.

- How do I obtain a community borrower's card?
The University of North Alabama extends many of its library privileges

- How can I avoid plagiarism?

- How do I submit requests for library purchases or make suggestions?
If you have a purchase request, fill out this form. If you have recommendations for library service improvements, use this form. This service is intended for students, faculty and staff only.
