Library Instruction Services for Distance Education
Instruction in the location and use of information resources is provided to UNA distance education students in a number of ways.
The Library's Homepage includes the following:
Library resource guides (such as pathfinders) and links to Internet resources by discipline. (See Library Instruction and Internet Resources Collection.)
Links to sites providing instruction on such topics as the "Seven Steps of the Research Process," searching the World Wide Web, evaluating Web sources, and writing style.
- A virtual tour of Collier Library
-
- A number of instructional handouts are also available. These materials cover such topics as searching the online catalog, interpreting Library of Congress classification numbers, and utilizing the interlibrary loan service, as well as pathfinders and library guides focused on specific subjects. Many of these handouts are also available online - see the Handouts, Tutorials and Instructional Guides page for a list of available resources.
-
- The Reference Department offers telephone assistance to distance education students needing brief guidance on effective search strategies, appropriate search terms, and useful information resources. Students may telephone 256-765-4469 during regular library hours or e-mail their questions to the following address:
- Leigh Thompson at dlthompson@una.edu
- An instructional CD-ROM containing tutorials on many of the libraries' databases and links to online instructional content is available FREE to any distance learning student. You can pick it up at the Distance Learning office in Steven Hall or request it using the CD-ROM Request Form.
