
Alpha Delta Chi
Alpha Delta Chi exists to make members more steadfast in
their Christian life, in their relationship with one
another, and in their studies. Its purpose is to strengthen
the spiritual lives and testimonies of the members, to
promote higher scholastic standards among the members, and
to provide social fellowship among the university students
living the Christian life and active in Christ’s service.
Animators and Gamers Club
The purpose of this organization is to provide a social
outlet for those with an interest in anime and gaming
culture through viewing anime as well as playing video
games, pen and paper role-playing games, and/or trading card
games.
BLACK
STUDENT ALLIANCE
The purpose of the Black Student Alliance is to promote unity
and harmony among students at the University; to promote cultural
awareness; to encourage participation in University events;
and to provide leadership opportunities to act as a catalyst
in involving the membership in the mainstream of campus leadership.
Membership is open to all UNA students, without regard to
race, creed, color or national origin. Contact Daryl Brown.
CAMPUS HIV AWARENESS TASK FORCE (CHAT)
Campus HIV Awareness Task Force, or CHAT Force, is a peer
education group founded by University of North Alabama students.
CHAT Force became a student organization in the fall of 1996.
CHAT Force’s goals are to share factual information
regarding HIV/AIDS with concerned students and citizens. CHAT
Force members are given the opportunity to participate in
American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Instructor Training. CHAT Force
also works with the American Red Cross to provide free HIV
testing on the UNA campus for students. CHAT Force actively
participates in University activities such as Homecoming and
Spring Fling. Any student of UNA can become a member of CHAT
Force. The advisor is Dr. Dan Throgmorton.
Chess Club
The purpose is for students to be able to develop
thinking skills while playing chess. Allow the opportunity
for students to compete in tournaments, and one day do well
enough to compete in a national tournament. This
organization is open to all students.
College Democrats
College Democrats, formerly known as Young Democrats of
America, is open to those who want to stimulate their
interests in governmental affairs. Its purpose it to
increase efficiency of popular government, to foster and
perpetuate the ideals and principles of the Democratic
Party, to recruit new members for the Democratic Party, to
help acquaint voters with the issues and the candidates, and
to provide for our people the highest degree of justice,
social welfare, and happiness.
COLLEGE REPUBLICANS
The College Republicans promote, educate and interest students
in the ideals of the Republican Party. The organization fosters
an interest in democratic rights, while stressing patriotism
and the development of more conscientious citizens. Any student
who is interested in politics and the Republican party is
welcome to become a member. There are annual dues for membership.
Dr. Jim Couch and Pete Williams are the advisors.
COLLEGIATE SINGERS
Promoting individual musical growth and music education in
choral singing, the Collegiate singers are sponsored by the
Music Department. This choir represents the University in
concerts and on tour. Dr. Ian Loeppky is the advisor.
DIORAMA
Published by a staff of students, the university yearbook
invites any interested student enrolled at UNA to be on the
Diorama staff. Writers, layout artists, photographers and
graphic artists, as well as interested journalists, may visit
the Publications Office in Keller Hall. Call or see Mary Jennings,
the Diorama’s advisor, for more details.
ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION
(A Chapter of MEISA, The Music Entertainment Industry Student
Association)
Members of the Entertainment Industry Association become more
aware of careers and opportunities in the music industry through
promotions and active involvement in musical entertainment
on campus. Membership is open to any interested student but
requires dues. Advisor is Janna Malone.
FASHION FORUM
Purpose of Fashion Forum is to broaden fashion merchandising
and interior design students’ knowledge base by means
of educational speakers; to broaden students’ awareness
of community service through charity work; and to offer financial
assistance to qualified students through a scholarship fund.

THE FLOR-ALA
The campus newspaper is published every Thursday of the fall
and spring semesters except during holidays and exam periods.
The Flor-Ala invites interested students to work on staff
as reporters, editors, photographers, or graphic artists.
Students wishing to lend their talents to the publication
of the campus paper should see The Flor-Ala's advisor, Mary
Jennings.
GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE
The Gay-Straight Alliance wishes to: provide support for gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender people, their friends, and
supporters; to educate the campus and community about gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues and; to establish
a campus and community environment free of prejudice based
on sexual orientation and gender and actively encourage student
activities which foster a positive, supportive, respectful,
and thoughtful community. The advisor is Dr. Nancy Atkinson.
GLOBAL FRIENDSHIP ORGANIZATION (GFO)
The purpose of the GFO is to integrate the International community
in Florence, to develop the awareness about global issues
and different cultures, and help international students to
adjust to American culture and life style without facing any
major problems. Membership is limited to UNA students, faculty
and staff members; however, Executive Committee may offer
‘Associate membership’ to non-faculty, non-staff
and non-student people. Members of this organization are free
to leave and disassociate without fear of retribution and
harassment. Membership requires an annual due, which is determined
by the Executive Committee. The advisors are Cagri Bagcioglu
and Santanu Borah.
Indian Student Organization
The main goal of this organization is to behave as a
global group that will be a representative of all the Indian
students on the UNA campus. It represents all present and
future Indian students of UNA. It provides a broader scope
for a cultural understanding and the exchange of ideas
between the people of India and others.
Japan Global Network
The purpose is to integrate the Japanese community in
the Shoals Area, to develop the awareness of the
contemporary Japanese World and its culture, and to promote
Japan. Membership is limited to UNA students; however,
faculty, staff student spouses, and community members may be
associate members.
LION PAWS DANCE TEAM
The Lion Paws Dance Team is a student organization open to
UNA students and high school seniors who will be attending
UNA in the Fall. Tryouts for this prestigious team are held
in the Spring. Members perform for various University and
community events. Members must be willing to devote time to
practice sessions, fund-raising events, and personal appearances.
The team will also compete in local, regional and national
dance team competitions. For information on tryouts, call

National Kitchen & Bath Association Club (NKBA)
NKBA’s endorsed college program was created to serve the
professional needs of the industry and ensure consistent,
quality education for students who desire to become
kitchen/bathroom design professionals. Each student must
complete classroom work and supervised internships, which
will enhance and extend the classroom experiences and ensure
that they have fulfilled the minimum student competencies.
NATUREER NEANDERTHALS SOCIETY
The NNS shall be to organize outdoor activities centered on
research areas of interest*; to train its members about the
basics of survival in the wilderness; and to organize camping
and trekking activities that serve all university departmental
research needs of both students and faculties.
*Research activities will be held according to the needs of
the interested research groups on any related subject.
Membership is limited to three types of members: Active Members;
Research Members; and Associate Membership. For more information

Nepal Student Organization
The purpose of the organization is to develop leadership
skills among Nepali and other international students, to
enhance intercultural experience, to help international
students adapt with the UNA Student Life and surrounding
communities, to reach out the multicultural diversity on
campus, and to promote UNA to the world.
ORGANIZATION FOR STUDENTS IN SCHOOL (O.A.S.I.S.)
O.A.S.I.S. is an organization that serves as a support group
for adult students and provides them with opportunities for
group interaction; offers educational and career programs;
serves as a resource group to the University in assessing
the needs and interests of adult students; and to participate
in orientation for other adult students. Membership is open
to all students who have paid their dues. The advisor is Dr.
Larry Bates.
Outdoor Recreation Club
This organization was to provide students with the
opportunity to enhance their knowledge of outdoor recreation
through various forms of outdoor activities and programs
designed around student interests.
Partnership for Learning Undergraduate Studies (PLUS)
Club
The PLUS promotes cultural exchange activities between
Arab students awe well as students from other origins
whether students from the PWS program or other students at
UNA.
PHI MU ALPHA SINFONIA FRATERNITY
The purpose of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia shall be to encourage
and actively promote the highest standards of creativity,
performance, education, and research in music in America.
Further purposes shall be develop and encourage loyalty to
the Alma mater, to foster the mutual welfare and brotherhood
of students of music, to develop the truest fraternal spirit
among its members, and to instill in all people an awareness
of music's important role in the enrichment of the human spirit.
There shall be four classes of membership: probationary, collegiate,
alumni, an honorary. Membership standings shall include: good

SHADES OF DIFFERENCE
Shades of Difference promote interaction among the diverse
cultures present on the University of North Alabama campus.
Members shall be approved by the Executive Council. For more

Sino-Student Organization (STO)
The purpose of this organization is to promote Chinese
culture, promotes active participation of Chinese speaking
students on campus and community activities, and birth
friendships.
SOCIETY FOR COLLEGIATE JOURNALISTS
The Society for Collegiate Journalists encourages excellence
in mass communications, develops fraternal spirit among its
members and rewards deserving students for their service to
extracurricular mass media organizations. Members must be
full-time students with an overall GPA of 2.5 and must be
active staff members of an extracurricular student mass media
service or organization at UNA, or have served in that position
for a minimum of four months. Mary Jennings serves SCJ as
advisor.
Student Alumni Association
The purpose of this organization is to promote school
spirit, improve campus community, provide networking
opportunities, and increase interaction between students.
Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
The purpose of SAAC is to enhance the total
student-athlete experience by developing student-athlete
leadership skills, promoting opportunity, protecting
student-athlete welfare and by fostering a positive
student-athlete image on the UNA campus, within the
community and on the state and national level.
Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)
SDS seeks to create a sustained community of educational and
political concern by bringing together people with different
political beliefs for open discussion. The purpose of this
organization is to exist as a nonpartisan forum through
which ideas and concepts may be freely and openly
exchanged. SDS hopes to influence local and national policy
by promoting the ideas of democracy and free thought.
UP 'TIL DAWN
Up 'til Dawn has the following objectives and goals: (1) To
unite The University of North Alabama campus in an effort
spearheaded and led by The University of North Alabama student
body. (2) To promote the value of service learning to all
students at UNA. (3) To provide students the opportunity to
accumulate valuable, practical knowledge through their committee
planning and event execution work. (4) To raise much needed
dollars for the children of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
(5) To establish a model event that St. Jude will market to
other campuses across the nation as they expand their Up'til
Dawn program. Membership and participation in Up'til Dawn
is open to all students at UNA. Associate members may include
faculty, alumni, staff, and community members, such as liaisons
with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please contact

UNIVERSITY PLAYERS
Students who participate in university plays and theatrical
performances are recognized through the University Players.
These students provide cultural enrichment to the community
and the campus with live stage entertainment. Membership in
the organization is open to students engaged in university
productions. Advisor to the University Players is Dr. David
Ruebhausen.
WOMEN’S STUDIES ASSOCIATION
The Women's Studies Association is formed for the purpose
of creating awareness of women's issues and gender issues,
both assisting and maintaining a vocal role for women on the
campus and in the community, and fostering a spirit of fellowship
among women and men specializing in Women's Studies. We, the
students and delegates, do hereby adopt this constitution
for the Women's Studies Association in order to carry out
these intentions to the fullest extent and in the most expeditious
manner. This is a self-governed association and we direct
our energies to pursuit, knowledge, and equality. Membership
of this association will be confined to students of UNA. All
members must be active participants in association activities.

WORD OF MOUTH
The purpose of Word of Mouth is to provide a positive atmosphere
for creative expression and to promote leadership abilities
and skills within a campus student organization. Membership
shall be appointed and approved by the President of Word of
Mouth. Dues are required each semester in order to be considered
active. The advisor is Audrey Mitchell.
YOUNG DEMOCRATS
The Young Democrats at UNA, affiliated with the Young Democrats
of Alabama and Young Democrats of America, strive to stimulate
interest in governmental affairs and to foster and perpetuate
the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party. Membership
is open to interested students.
