Actor George Lindsey graduates from Florence State Teachers College. Lindsey, later famous for his role as Goober on “The Andy Griffith Show,” was not only active in the university’s theater department, but was a quarterback for the football team. He was later presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 1992 and, in 1998, helped establish the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival.
