Contestant Checklist
The Miss UNA Pageant is a closed preliminary for the Miss Alabama/Miss America Pageant. The following is a brief list of requirements for contestants entering the Miss UNA Pageant.
Requirements
- Age: At least 17 years of age and must NOT have had their 24th birthday before September 30, 2011.
- Enrolled full time at UNA and enrolled at UNA for at least 1 semester prior to competing.
- Minimum Cumulative GPA must be at least 2.5.
- Female, unmarried, never have been married and no children.
- US Citizen.
INTERESTED IN BEING IN MISS UNA?
Come to an interest meeting:September 22nd, 2010 at 5pm in GUC Performance Center
October 6th, 2010 at 3pm in GUC 200
October 13th, 2010 at 5pm in GUC 207
All contestants must attend all mandatory meetings and rehearsals, submit all paperwork and necessary items on time, and meet all eligibility requirements.
Important Dates
October 29th, 2020 - PAPERWORK due by 5pm to the Office of Student Engagement, GUC room 107. What all do I turn in? – Miss UNA Contestant Packet
November 3rd, 2010 - 1st Mandatory Contestant Meeting, GUC 207
November 10th – 12th, 2010 - Mock Interviews
November 16th, 2010 - Training session with Glenda Richey in the SRC, 3rd Floor at 2:30pm
January 11th, 2010 - 2nd Mandatory Contestant Meeting, Norton Auditorium from 10 am to Noon
January 13th, 2010 - 3rd Mandatory Contestant Meeting in the SRC, 3rd Floor from 5pm to 7pm
Opportunities for all Interested Contestants
- Training Session with Glenda Richey, Coordinator of Fitness at the SRC. She will do a personal training workshop on Thursday, November 16th at 2:30 pm. The workshop will be held at the aerobics studio in the SRC (3rd Floor). NO RSVP necessary, just come on!
- The Office of Career Planning and Development will hold Mock Interviews for Miss UNA Contestants, November 10th – 12th. Please contact Martha Hickman at 765-4276 to schedule an appointment. Appointments MUST be made by 1st Contestant Meeting. A mock interview is a great resource for life in general, not just Miss UNA, so definitely take advantage of it!
- The Miss UNA Advisory Board Committee is offering to look at and critique ALL outfits for the pageant. If interested, see Melanie Harris in the Office of Student Engagement.
Rising Star Program
What is a Rising Star?An opportunity for young ladies in the Shoals Area to be mentored by Miss UNA contestants in order to become the stars of tomorrow!
Requirements
- Must be female, age 7-11 (by June 2011).
- Must be willing to attend a rehearsal on Friday, January 22, 2011 from 5-9pm at UNA’s Norton Auditorium.
- Must be present for the Miss UNA pageant on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 4pm-completion of pageant at UNA’s Norton Auditorium.
- The Rising Star of the new Miss UNA 2011 must be willing to participate in the Rising Star program at the Miss Alabama Pageant, June 9-12, 2011 at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. (The Rising Star will only be required to be in attendance one of those days.)

- THE RISING STAR OF THE NEW MISS UNA 2011 WILL ATTEND THE MISS ALABAMA PAGEANT AS MISS UNA’S RISING STAR (the Miss UNA Pageant will pay the Miss Alabama Rising Star fee) AND WILL RECEIVE ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ON THE STATE LEVEL AS WELL AS THE LOCAL LEVEL.
