Meet Miss UNA
Laura Milligan
Miss UNA 2009Laura Milligan is a 2006 Muscle Shoals High School Honors Graduate. She is currently a Junior majoring in Elementary Education at the University of North Alabama. In January of this year she was crowned Miss UNA 2009 and received a full years scholarship with additional honors and awards. Laura opened a business in June of 2008 and is the owner/instructor of Next Generation Dance. The studio is located in Muscle Shoals where she teaches all styles of dance to ages 2 and up. Laura has been dancing for over 15 years winning numerous awards in competitive dance. Her hobbies include dancing, art, and sewing. Her future plans are to expand her dance studio into a fine arts school which would focus on the arts in full spectrum. Laura founded a program for children with challenges back in 2005 called "A Chance To Dance". The program allows children with special needs to participate in dance free of charge. Laura has supported and helped out with the local Special Olympics for years. She also began volunteering with the mentoring program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals as soon as she turned 18 and was qualified to obtain a little sister. When she's not designing clothing, sewing, or dancing, she loves to cook and bake. Her specialty is cake decorating which she finds to be a great way of relaxing. Combining her passions of dance, children, and the arts allows her a way to express what it means to her to have the ability to give back to the community in a positive way.
