BASIC DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR

THE CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR

 

   The North Alabama Law Enforcement Training Center will host a 40-hour Basic Digital Photography for the Crime Scene Investigator on August 3-7, 2009.  The course will start at 8:00 AM.  Jan Johnson will teach the course. 

 

   The cost of the course is $299.00 per participant.  Class size is limited to 25 participants.  Registration can be made online at www.una.edu/naletc

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

    This comprehensive 40 - hour workshop will provide the participants training and assistance in the proper use of photography equipment as it pertains to crime scene documentation.  The basics of digital imagery as it applies to law enforcement will also be presented.  The use of SLR digital cameras, flashes, and tripods will be covered, followed by hands-on exercises. 

 

   Documentation of a variety of types of crime scenes will be covered illustrating the proper techniques in documenting evidence of various types.  These exercises will be augmented with lecture material and case presentations for the ultimate purpose of reconstruction of the sequence of events, which occurred at the scene of a crime. 

 

   This is a hands-on workshop which will allow the participants to work individually and in small groups as they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills required to properly document a scene.  The evidence that will be analyzed will include that which is present at the crime scene, in a vehicle, on a victim’s and/or a subject’s clothing, or on discarded evidence such as knives, firearms and other objects.

 

What to bring to the course:

 

Very casual attire and a digital camera with macro capabilities are preferred; however, 35mm camera may be used.  A laptop computer for your courtroom presentations would be highly recommended.

 

   Each participant will need to bring note taking material.
