11TH ANNUAL GEORGE LINDSEY UNA FILM FESTIVAL WINNERS

FLORENCE, Ala.— A University of North Alabama alumnus won one of the top honors at the 11th Annual George Lindsey UNA Film Festival last weekend. For his film “Like Moles, Like Rats,” Jim Torres took home the Clyde “Sappo” Black Sweet Home Alabama Award, a $2,000 award presented to the best of the festival’s entries that is at least partially made in Alabama.

UNA alumna Emily Edwards was recognized with an honorable mention in the category of faculty submissions for her film, “Scripture Cake.”

Awards were presented at the festival’s award show Saturday night at the Ritz Theater in Sheffield.

Best of Show — “The Sunday Man,” college student category; directed by Danielle Shamash

Clyde “Sappo” Black Sweet Home Alabama Award — “Like Moles, Like Rats, professional full-length narrative category; directed Jim Torres

Honorable Mention: “Greetings from the Shore,” directed by Greg Chwerchak

Honorable Mention: “The Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice,” directed by Joanne Fish and Vincent Kralyevich

Animation — “Simulcra,” directed by Tatchapon Lertwirojkul

Honorable Mention: “A Faery’s Tale,” directed by Sylvia Apostol
