FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama athletics department was recently honored with a 2007-08 Diversity in Athletics Award from the NCAA and the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University. The award was in the category of African-American Graduation: Female Student-Athletes.

“This is a great honor for UNA athletics and the university as a whole,” said Mark Linder, UNA athletic director. “At UNA, we’re committed to graduating champions, and recognition such as this is one reflection of how we’re accomplishing that mission.”

Through independent research, the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport presents awards to colleges and universities achieving the highest scores in diversity strategy, gender diversity of departmental employees, racial diversity of departmental employees, value and attitudinal diversity of departmental employees, graduation of African-American female and male student-athletes, and gender equity compliance.
