UNA HONORS 2008 ALUMNI AWARD WINNERS

FLORENCE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama’s 2008 Homecoming Alumni Awards Banquet will be held in the Guillot University Center Banquet Hall at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24. The cost to attend is $20 per individual.
The banquet will recognize Alumni of the Year Award recipients. Among those honored will be Jean Schulman, a 1975 graduate, who trained as a fashion designer and went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts degree. She started the art program at Muscle Shoals High School. An artist of 40 years, her work is featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of History and Technology’s permanent collection and is displayed in more than 100 private collections throughout the United States. She currently lives in Florence.
Weldon Cole, a 1960 graduate, will also be recognized. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in accounting, he went on to receive his Master of Business Administration degree at The University of Alabama. He is currently a consultant and private investor with more than 35 years of experience in numerous corporations and companies throughout the United States. He serves on numerous boards of directors and advisory boards. He and his wife, Delores, currently live in Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Phillip R. Langsdon, a 1975 graduate, will also be recognized. He is currently a full-time cosmetic surgeon in Memphis, Tenn. He has a faculty appointment with The University of Tennessee, where he serves as chief of the Division of Facial Plastic Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology. Dr. Langsdon has written more than 21 publications and serves on numerous boards and committees. He and his family currently live in Memphis.
Other alumni awards that will be presented based on outstanding performance and achievement beyond UNA graduation include the Community Service Award, which will be presented to Ed Tease (’62), Linda Leathers (’88) and Andy Morris (’76). The Faculty Staff Service award will be presented to Lloyd Jones (’92), Todd Vardaman (’90) and Shannon Wells (’05). The Educator of the Year Award will be presented to Joe Brewer (’55), William Stanphill (’70) and Ronald J. Wright (’70). The Military Service Award will be presented to Paul Revere O’Mary (’52), Columbus Monroe Womble (’63) and Troy Burns Oliver (’65). The Friend of the Year Award will be presented to Denise Seagraves and Ernest Borgnine. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Grady Liles. The Athletic Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Greg Bowles (’95), Kevin Bradford (’83), Steve Martin (’90), Ande Jones (’76 and ’85), Merle West (’64) and Gerald Smith (’97). The UNA Current Students Promising Alumni Award will be presented to Justin Bishop Alexander, Emily Anderton, Winn Brewer, Kieaire Harris, Will Hodges, A.J. Milwee, Katie Rolf, Jay Sandlin and Rusty Sherrill.
