DAVIDSON NAMED UNA DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY AND INSTITUTIONAL EQUITY

FLORENCE, Ala. — Dr. Lelon Davidson was recently named the University of North Alabama’s director of diversity and institutional equity. Establishment of the Office of Diversity and Institutional Equity was the centerpiece of the university’s Strategic Diversity Plan.
Among Davidson’s objectives as director will be the development of an action plan and the incorporation of best practices into all university hiring protocols, training, working with students to enhance recruitment and retention, and continuous improvement of campus climate. Davidson is being added to the UNA Executive Council.
Davidson, a professor of education at UNA since 1999, has held a variety of teaching and administrative positions at UNA, Mississippi State University, the Holly Springs (Miss.) School District, the Marshall County (Miss.) School District and the Oxford (Miss.) School District. He was superintendent of schools for the Holly Spring School District.
Davidson is currently involved in many professional assignments and activities, including the Alabama Public Universities Task Force for Recruitment and Retention.
