Aquila Theatre Company to Perform ‘Macbeth’ at Norton Auditorium

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Aquila Theatre Company will perform William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” at Norton Auditorium Feb. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the University of North Alabama. In addition to their performance, the actors will teach a master class for theater and English students about topics such as the Shakespearean language, dramatic monologue and general theater production. The 15th Annual George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will pay tribute to actor and fan favorite Michael Rooker. Born in Jasper, Alabama, also the birthplace of festival founder George Lindsey, Rooker’s extensive list of work in film includes such notable titles as “Slither,” “The Replacement Killers,” “Days of Thunder,” and the highly acclaimed “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.” Rooker is widely known for his many roles in television, most recently as the tough redneck Merle Dixon in AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Rooker is also the voice of multiple video game characters and is a playable character in “Call of Duty: Black Ops.”

UNA Signs Memorandum of Agreement With Chinese University For Degree In Integrative Health

FLORENCE, Ala. – University of North Alabama President Dr. William G. Cale Jr. last week signed an international memorandum of agreement with Shenqi Ethnic Medicine College for partnership in building a Center for Integrative Health in Florence. The center would offer a Master of Science degree in health and human performance with a concentration in integrative health. The agreement will become official upon approval by the boards of UNA and SEMC and then by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE). The next meeting of the UNA board is March 16.
