FLORENCE, Ala. – During a troubled economy, the University of North Alabama College of Business and the Shoals Angel Network are partnering to create new businesses in the Shoals area. The Shoals Angel Network is a group of local business leaders who evaluate and invest in start-up business ideas.

“If someone has a new idea or an invention, they can propose it to the Angel Network, and if they think it’s an excellent idea, they might invest in it,” said Dr. Keith Sellers, professor of accounting and director of the Center for Business Valuation at UNA.

The UNA College of Business aims to help local businesses not just by providing educated employees but also by helping the Angel Network evaluate new business ideas.

UNA will begin placing students with the program as soon as spring 2010.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity. Business students will get the opportunity to work as a close assistant to the some of the top business people in the area,” Sellers said. “At a firm or a company, there is little chance that a student intern or new graduate would get to work with the leader of that company on a project of this nature.”
