UNA Student Wins Competitive NAPRCA Scholarship

May. 21, 2010

FLORENCE, Ala. – Jamie Brooks, a sophomore public relations major at the University of North Alabama, has been awarded the competitive Michael K. Simmons Scholarship by the North Alabama Chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama (NAPRCA).

The M.K. Simmons Scholarship was established by the NAPRCA in honor of a very special member of the professional organization. Funds for this effort are raised through special programs and the generosity of council members. Each year since the fund was established, a deserving public relations, communications or marketing student has been the recipient of the scholarship.

Brooks, of Pinson, holds a 4.0 grade-point average. She has an impressive roster of extracurricular activities, including the UNA Honors Program, Student Government Association and Freshman Forum. She has also worked as a brand ambassador and brand model for brands such as PlayStation, DirectTV, Coke Zero and Burger King.

In her essay, Brooks said she is grateful to have a small amount of time to think, learn and prepare herself for the future. Choosing a career path was never about money, she said. She has always wanted to find a profession that makes her happy. Once Brooks graduates, she plans to attend law school and then pursue a career as a lobbyist for a nonprofit organization.

The Public Relations Council of Alabama seeks to promote the development of public relations practitioners through continuing education and increased awareness about the profession. For more information, visit www.naprca.org.
