UNA, Shoals Chamber of Commerce To Host Gubernatorial Candidates Oct. 11

Sep. 3, 2010

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama and the Shoals Chamber of Commerce will host Alabama gubernatorial candidates Robert Bentley and Ron Sparks on the UNA campus Oct. 11.

“We care about the future of this wonderful state and would like to make an informed choice about who should be leading us for at least the next four years,” said Cory Hamilton, UNA Student Government Association president.

The day of activities will include a luncheon with Bentley, sponsored by the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, a reception with Sparks, and Q&A sessions with both candidates, with questions from a panel of Chamber and Student Government Association representatives.

Dr. Santanu Borah, a UNA professor of management, said the event is being held at a critical time in Alabama’s history. “Given that we have a high unemployment rate in the state and the overall state of the economy is mediocre,” he said, “it is very important for us to send the right message to our leaders.”

The luncheon with Bentley will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Guillot University Center banquet halls, followed by a Q&A from noon to 1 p.m.

The reception with Sparks will begin at 5 p.m. in the GUC atrium, followed by a Q&A in the GUC Performance Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Tickets to the luncheon are $12 each and are available by calling the Shoals Chamber of Commerce at 256-764-4661. All other events are free and open to the public.
