Mar. 3, 2009

Week to conclude with dedication of new rappel tower

FLORENCE, Ala. – Wall climbing, sharp shooting and paintball are just a few of the challenges University of North Alabama students are facing for the next few days as part of ROTC Challenge Week. The event, in its second year, encourages students to sign up for a variety of fun but challenging activities.

This year’s week of activities began Saturday with the Run for Your Life 5k run and, today, includes the ROTC Sharpshooter Challenge at the ROTC range behind the UNA math building. This afternoon, from 1 to 4 in the Wesleyan Hall Annex, ROTC is offering a somewhat less physical challenge, an XBOX 360 tournament.

Wednesday’s events will kick off early, 6 a.m., with the Mogadishu Mile, in honor of the soldiers who fought in Mogadishu, Somalia. The day will also include the ROTC Paintball Challenge from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wildwood Park.

Thursday will include the ROTC Wall Climbing Challenge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The week of events will conclude Friday morning at 11 with the dedication and demonstration of UNA Army ROTC’s new rappel tower. The rappel tower is located off of Oak View Circle, behind Kilby School.
