Dirt Under the Fingernails: UNA Students Volunteering For Community Projects This Saturday

Mar. 11, 2009

FLORENCE, Ala. – You may be detoured around N. Court Street Saturday morning. But it’s for a good cause. It’s all part of the University of North Alabama’s Into the Streets program – a day of community volunteer activities for university students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Repainting the UNA lion paws on N. Court Street is just one of many volunteer activities scheduled. The day will also include yard work, maintenance, painting, visiting with elderly shut-ins and picking up trash at a local park.

“Volunteerism is important to the strength and wellbeing of any community, and it’s also important to the types of successful lives we expect our students to live,” said Jennifer Culler, UNA’s assistant director of student engagement for leadership and volunteerism.
