George Lindsey UNA Film Festival Issues Call for Entries

FLORENCE, Ala. – The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is now accepting entries for 2010. Entries may be submitted through Withoutabox.com.

The Early Deadline for submissions is July 15, with standard entry fees of $20 and student entry fees of $10. The Regular Deadline is set for August 15, with $25 standard entry fees and $15 for students. The Late Deadline is September 15, with $30 standard entry fees and $20 for students. An Extended Deadline is set for October 15, with $35 standard entry fees and $25 for students.

The festival, in its 13th year, is scheduled for March 4-7, 2010.

Festival prizes include $500 for the winner in each category, as well as a $2,000 prize to the winner of the Clyde “Sappo” Black Sweet Home Alabama Award, honoring the Best of State entry filmed in Alabama. Special jury honors will also be awarded for best of Show, Best Story, Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Score and Audience Choice.

The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey’s own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show.”

The 2010 festival will welcome Bob Gale, writer and producer of “Back to the Future,” among other films, as a special guest. Previous guests to the festival include Oscar winners Billy Bob Thornton and Ernest Borgnine, “Million Dollar Man” Lee Majors and veteran actor Rance Howard, among others.
