University of North Alabama Recognizes Turris Fidelis and Keller Key Recipients During Spring Commencement

Turris Fidelis award winner Laura GilesFLORENCE, Ala. – Graduating seniors Kaitlin B. Chappell of Cullman, Ala., and Laura A. Giles of Cornersville, Tenn., were the recipients of the coveted Turris Fidelis Key during spring commencement this past Saturday at Flowers Hall on the University of North Alabama campus.

The Turris Fidelis Key – awarded on the basis of outstanding service to the university as well as superior scholastic achievement – is awarded to up to two UNA seniors at the spring commencement ceremonies.

“This honor is the highest that can be conferred upon a graduating senior,” said David Shields, UNA’s vice president for student affairs. “Recipients are selected by a joint committee of faculty and students.”

Chappell graduated with a degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism, while Giles graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. 

Recipients of the coveted Keller Key were also announced at Saturday’s commencement.  The Keller Key Award is presented to the student or students with the highest grade-point average from the graduating senior class. Each recipient held a 4.00 on a 4.00 scale. 

This year’s recipients include, Samuel A. Hampton of Iuka, Miss., Anna G. Masterson of Town Creek, Ala., and Katie A. Swann of Oneonta, Ala.  Hampton graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Chemistry.  Masterson Graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in Social Work and Swann graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Professional Management.
