Timeline for the Student Recreation Center
February 26th, 1998: The Student Government Association passed a resolution (#98-04) stating its support of the construction of a student recreation facility and its willingness to work with the University administration in the development of such a fcacility.
May 1998: Student Recreation Center Task Force formed to determine if the campus could/would support a recreation center. The task for worked diligently over the next several months, researching other facilities, their costs and equipment, and surveying the campus in order determine the fesibility of a recreation center at the University of North Alabama.
June 15th, 1998: Executive Council approve proposal to have preliminary schematic plans and evaluations for the parking deck and recreation center drawn up.
September 16th, 1998: Referendum help to find out whether students are interested in a Recreation Center. 86.3% of students voting favored the recreation center, stating they were willing to pay fee to access the facility.
December 4th, 1998: Board of Trustees passed resolution to authorize the development of preliminary plans for financing and construction of a student recreation center and campus parking facility.
February 2002: Ad Hoc Recreation Facility committe formed for the purpose of overseeing the constructin of the facility.
September 6th, 2002: Board of Trustees the acceptence of low bid for the contruction of the Student Recreation Center.
September 15th, 2002: First dirt was moved.
January 2003: Ad Hoc Recreation committe reappointed.
March 19th, 2004: Ribbon Cutting and dedication ceremony.
March 31st, 2004: Grand Opening
