On-Line Institutional Supplement for Federal Parent Loan

For Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

The Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is designed to assist the parents of dependent students in meeting educational expenses.  There are no income restrictions on eligibility for this loan.  The annual limit is the cost of education minus financial assistance awarded to the student.  Parents who wish to apply for a Federal PLUS must have their student process a 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

ELIGIBILITY:  Students must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at the University of North Alabama.  Students must be enrolled at least half-time (six hours undergraduate) to be eligible for Federal PLUS.

DISBURSEMENTS:  Federal regulations require the Federal PLUS monies to be disbursed no earlier than ten days before the beginning of each term of enrollment.  Federal PLUS funds will be credited to student accounts and will be used to clear all outstanding obligations.  When the transfer of the Federal PLUS monies results in an overpayment of the student’s billing account, the excess funds will be refunded in accordance with University policies.

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS:  In order to receive a Federal PLUS, a student must be making satisfactory academic progress.  Students must achieve and maintain the appropriate GPA for his/her class level:

            Hours                           Minimum GPA

            0-31                                         1.60

            32-63                                       1.85

            64-95                                       1.95

            96 –or above                            2.00

and have passed 75% of attempted hours once they have been enrolled in 24 or more credit hours at the University of North Alabama.  Any student who has is not eligible for financial aid for failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress may appeal the decision in writing through the Office of Student Financial Services.  Undergraduate students cannot receive aid after they have attempted 172 semester hours of academic work.
