Endowed Scholarships Available at UNA

Abroms Endowed Accounting Fund.  Open to full-time students enrolled in the Department of Accounting and pursuing degrees in Accounting.  Preference shall be given to children of employees of Abroms & Associates, P.C.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Lodia and Ora Absher.  Open to full-time students enrolled in the College of Business.  This scholarship is for one year only.  Prior recipients may reapply.

Dawn Corine Allfrey.  Graduating senior from Athens High School; selected by Athens High School.

Alumni Scholars.  Awarded on the basis of outstanding leadership during high school years as reported on application for UNA Leadership Scholarship.

American Legion Florence/Lauderdale Post 11 Scholarship. Preference to a disabled veteran, spouse of a veteran, or descendant of a veteran; a statement in writing to verify eligibility will be required; preference given to residents of Lauderdale County, Alabama; renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Selected by the merican Legion Florence/Lauderdale Post 11 (Florence, Alabama).

American Legion Morgan County Post 15 Scholarship.  Preference to a disabled veteran, spouse of a veteran, or descendant of a veteran; a statement in writing to verify eligibility will be required; preference given to residents of Morgan County, Alabama; renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA.  Selected by the American Legion Morgan County Post 15 (Decatur, Alabama).

AmSouth Bank.  Junior majoring in Economics, Finance, Management or Marketing.  Nominated by UNA College of Business.  Selected by AmSouth Bank.

Clyde W. Anderson.  Open to all students.  Awarded to deserving young men and women at the University of North Alabama.  Each scholarship is for one academic year.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Marcia Austin.  Eligible student nominated by Colbert County High School officials.

Raymond A. Azbell.  Recipients shall be full-time students who are members of the Collegiate Singers.  This scholarship is for one year only, but prior recipients may reapply for subsequent years.  Selected by a special committee from the Department of Music.

Raymond A. Azbell/Edd Jones Endowed Band.  Recipients shall be full-time students who are members of the UNA Pride of Dixie Marching Band.  Recipients selected by the Music Department.  Prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years. 

Marcella Lakebrink Bennett.  Full-time Nursing majors.  This scholarship is for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply for this scholarship during subsequent years.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Martha Lou Benton.  Full-time students with preference to recipients who attended Kilby Laboratory School.  This scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Beta Beta Beta.  Biology major or minor; member of Beta Zeta chapter of Beta Beta Beta; overall GPA of 2.5 on 4.0 scale, 3.0 on 4.0 scale in Biology courses; transfers eligible after completing 6 hours of biology courses at UNA.  Applications available in Biology Department; due in September for fall, February for spring.

Richard B. "Dick" Biddle/WOWL Scholarship.  Priority given to Broadcast Journalism majors.  Selected by the Department of Communications and Theater.

Kelly Houser Bigbee.  Undergraduate Nursing student who achieved at least a "B" average in high school.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Coach Ed Billingham.  Awarded to student who demonstrates outstanding leadership and academic abilities.  Recipient may not receive any other UNA scholarship.  Selected by special committee. 

Jerry Moore Billingsley. Open to all full-time students.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Blackwell.  Open to all full-time students.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Books-A-Million/T.S. Stribling.  Open to full-time students majoring in English.  This scholarship is available for one academic year, but recipients may apply for subsequent years.  Selected by the Department of English. A separate application is required. Contact the Department of English for more information. The deadline to apply is December 1 of each year.

Raymond D. Boone (1962).   Deserving student majoring in Performing Arts such as Instrumental or Vocal Music or Drama.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the Music Department.

Clara Devaney Box Memorial Scholarship.  Deserving students planning a career in Elementary Education; full-time students with financial need and potential for success as demonstrated through grades and test scores.  Selected by the College of Education.

George E and Cora Broman.  Deserving MBA student.  Selected by the College of Business.

Coby Stockard Brubaker.  Based on outstanding and strong scholastic performance during high school years as reported on application for UNA Leadership Scholarship.

Marvin A. and Grace Bryan.  Open to full-time students from Lawrence County and Wayne County, Tennessee.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Charles E. Carr, Jr.  Awarded to full-time juniors and seniors enrolled in the Department of Music who have expressed their intention to become music teachers and are taking the professional education component for teacher certification.  Student must maintain a 2.75 GPA.  Selected by special committee.

Inez Holcombe Chandler and Vickie Charleen Parker Memorial.  Awarded to deserving new freshmen selected by the Office of Admissions, along with high school guidance counselors who have knowledge of deserving students who demonstrate leadership qualities and financial need.

Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene.  Incoming freshmen and transfer students; Chemistry/Industrial Hygiene majors; awarded on the basis of prior achievement and potential for future excellence; renewable up to four years with satisfactory progress toward graduation with major in Professional Chemistry or Industrial Hygiene, enrollment in Chemistry or Industrial Hygiene course each semester; cumulative 3.0 GPA in all Chemistry/Industrial Hygiene courses, and minimum 3.0 Cum GPA. Lt. Phillip Don Childers.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Coca-Cola Dream Scholarships.  Students who meet the normal requirements for enrollment at UNA are eligible if they meet one of the following requirements: neither parent completed a baccalaureate degree or the student resides in a home of a single parent who did not complete a baccalaureate degree.  Applications are available in the Student Financial Services office, 206 Bibb Graves Hall or may be printed here.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Coffee High School Alumni.  Awarded to graduates of Florence High School, Florence, Alabama, who enroll as full-time undergraduate students, without regard to their major field of study.  Preference given to applicants with demonstrated financial need and high academic achievement.  Recipients selected by the University Committee.  Prior recipients may reapply for subsequent years.

Delores and Weldon Cole Honors Scholarship.  Open to students enrolled in the University Honors Program.  Selection as a scholarship recipient shall be made by the Director of the Honors Program and will be based on the student's record of academic achievement.

Collegiate Car Tag.  Awarded to residents of the State of Alabama. Based on leadership criteria. All incoming freshmen who submit resume to Office of Admissions are considered for this scholarship.

E.L. Culver.  Open to all students. Currently designated for new transfer students and/or incoming Freshman with minimum GPAs/hours completed. Selected by Office of Admissions based on application for admission. No separate form required.

Mary and Raymond F. Deeters.  Open to all students.  Preference is given to qualified students from Fairview High in Cullman County, Alabama.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Kathy Dickerson.  Open to all students; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Drummond Family and Friends Endowed Scholarship Fund.  Preference to students majoring in Human Environmental Sciences who have demonstrated success in grades and college entrance examination scores.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the Department of Human Environmental Sciences.

Karen Pressnell Duncan Endowed Scholarship.  Recipients must be full-time students with financial need who have demonstrated success through grades and college entrance exams.  Scholarship for one academic year only.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by University Scholarship Committee.

Lambert-Ezell-Durham.  Open to all students. This scholarship is for one year only. Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Max Earwood.  Open to all students who reside in Lauderdale County, Alabama; prior recipients may reapply; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upper classmen.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Beatrice Reeves and H. M. Eck Memorial.  Education majors with a  minimum 3.0 GPA.  Preference is given to students from Tennessee.  The scholarship is for one year scholarship.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the College of Education.

Sarah Edmundson.   Full-time Nursing major who demonstrates academic merit and financial need.  Prior-year recipients may reapply.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Jessie Barnes Edwards.  Recipients shall be full-time undergraduate students in the College of Nursing.  Preference given to students who may not otherwise qualify for financial assistance based upon scholastic merit, but who show promise and the potential to succeed at the University.  Recipients shall be selected by the Department of Nursing.  Prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.

Gregory K. Engle.  Awarded to the UNA Student Government Association President during the year in which the recipient serves as Student Government Association President. The scholarship is for one academic year only.

The Florence Rotary Club Memorial.  For deserving Business majors who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and character as exemplified by the philosophy, mission, and goals of the Rotary International and the Florence Rotary Club.  Selected by a committee from the College of Business.

H.A. Flowers.  Juniors and Seniors.  Preference given to HPER majors.  Renewable if satisfactory progress is maintained.

Dr. C. William Foster.   Special preference shall be given to English and Professional Writing majors, followed by Language Arts majors.  Each scholarship is for one academic year only.  Prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by the Department of English. A separate application is required. Contact the Department of English for more information. The deadline to apply is December 1 of each year.

Todd Foust Memorial Recipients will be incoming freshmen who have achieved a 2.75 grade point average and will have demonstrated leadership qualities.  Preference will be given to students who attended private high school.  This scholarship is for one academic year only.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

James Eddie Frost Memorial.  Open to full-time students who are current residents of Public Housing or a participant in the Housing Choice Voucher Program, or any successor program, of the Florence, Alabama Housing Authority.  Must have been in such residence for a minimum of two years prior to date of application.  Each applicant must expect to graduate from high school or receive a GED certificate in the spring of the year of application and must be planning to enroll at UNA the following fall.  Selection will be based primarily on academic achievement with consideration given to extra-curricular and community activities.  Prior recipients must reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Eddie Frost Student Teacher Scholarship.  Elementary and Secondary Education majors.  Recipients will be awarded scholarship aid during the term of their student teaching internship.  Recipients must have achieved a cumulative 3.5 GPA at the time of application, and prepare a paper on "How I Plan to Make A Difference in my Local community following Graduation".  Priority given to student who are actively involved in community and/or church through volunteer efforts.  Selected by special committee.

Gabel-Cox Scholarship.  Open to full-time students enrolled in the Department of Art with declared majors in the fine arts, with a minimum GPA of 2.75.  Applicants must submit: two letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to their artistic talents, personality and character, a statement of artistic philosophy and career goals, and a folding style portfolio of their work.  Preference given to those who demonstrate high quality work in the portfolio.  Portfolio should contain fifteen examples of current work, both monochromatic and color, matted or framed where suitable.  Three dimensional work may accompany the portfolio if it relates to the area of interest.  Selected by the Department of Art.

William F. "Bill" Gardiner.  Preference given to full-time transfer student from Northwest/Shoals Community College.  This scholarship is for one academic year only.

Michael Gargis.  Open to all students; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

The Department of Geography Endowed Scholarship Fund.  Awarded to juniors and seniors majoring in Geography. Selected by the Department of Geography. Prior recipients may reapply.  This scholarship is for one academic year only.

George H. Gibbens.  HPER major.  Prior-year recipients may reapply. 

William A Graham.  Awarded to entering freshman.  Renewable with 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Pauline Gravlee.  Available to students who have completed a minimum of 48 hours at UNA prior to the beginning of the academic year for which the scholarship will be awarded. Student must have 2.80 cumulative GPA at time of application. Preference will be given to women applicants. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life.  Deadline to apply is March 1.

Thaddeus Green Memorial.  Open to full-time students from Lauderdale County, Alabama or Lawrence County, Tennessee.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need.  Each application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a teacher at Lexington High School.  Each scholarship is for one academic year only.  Prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by a special committee of representatives for Digital Operations Corporation and a UNA faculty member. 

Becky Grubb.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Robert M. Guillot/Colonial Bank Scholarships.  This scholarship endowment was established by Colonial Bank in honor of Robert M. Guillot, who served as president of the University of North Alabama from 1972 to 1989. These scholarships are awarded to deserving students and may be renewed. Selection is made by University administration on the basis of UNA Academic/Leadership scholarship application filed by February 1.

Dr. Thomas F. "Whitey" Hall Memorial.  Open to second year or above, full-time students with minimum 3.0 GPA (may be transfer students with minimum 3.0 GPA from previous schools) majoring in Secondary Education, with the teaching field of Biology or in Biology with an interest in Botany.  Each application must be accompanied by a 250 word essay explaining the applicant's interest in plants.  Each scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by a special committee from the Department of Biology.

Edith Hand.  Sophomore Communications and Theater major with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Selected by the Department of Communications and Theater.

Marsha Whitley Hargett.  Junior or senior majoring in Administrative Office Services or Business Education. Selected by the International Associates of Administrative Professionals.

Laura M Harrison.  Open to all full-time female students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA.  Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Hassell Scholarship.  Awarded to deserving students. Preference will be given to students from and near Wayne County, Tennessee.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Fred L. and Jane Hattabaugh.  Recipients shall be junior or senior students pursuing degrees in the College of Education.  Recipients shall possess both good academic standing and financial need.  This award is for one academic year.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the College of Education.

Heart Health Center.  Senior Nursing major with at least two semesters remaining in program. Preference to students pursuing a career in cardiac nursing. Selected by the College of Nursing.

Harlon Hill.  Awarded to outstanding student athlete during the spring of his/her senior year of undergraduate school. The recipient must plan to enroll in graduate or professional school either at UNA or at another university upon his/her graduation from UNA. The scholarship is provided for the first semester of graduate studies.  Selected by the Athletics Department.

The Harlon Hill Golf Classic Endowed Scholarship Fund.  Open to all students. Financial need and successful grades will be deciding factors.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Eunice and George Hoffmeister Endowed Scholarship.  Designated to non-music majors who wish to include a college-level piano instruction in their curriculum, and who, on evaluation by the faculty of the Department of Music, demonstrate sufficient aptitude and previous experience to benefit significantly from college level piano instruction at UNA.  Recipients are selected by recommendations from the Department of Music.

John W. Holland, Jr.  Full-time Biology majors holding regular membership in Beta Beta Beta at UNA. Nominees selected by the Department of Biology.

Bobby E. and Sara Irons.  Awarded to deserving Business majors who have demonstrated success as determined by the College of Business.  Preference given to students from Waterloo High School.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Raymond E. Isbell.  Incoming freshmen from any high school in Colbert County (Alabama) with overall B average and ranking in upper 20 percent of graduating class. Must enroll in General Chemistry. Renewable with 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Selected by Department of Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene.

Shirley A. Isbell.   Incoming freshmen from any high school in Colbert County (Alabama) with overall B average ranking in upper 20 percent of graduating class. Must enroll in General Chemistry.  Renewable with 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Selected by Department of Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene.

Dr. Jean L. Johnson.   English Majors who have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Preference will be given to students majoring in English Education.  This scholarship is for one academic year, but prior recipients may reapply.  A separate application is required.  Contact the Department of English for more information. William D. Johnson.   Awarded to deserving students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference given to students majoring in English and Language Arts.  This scholarship is for one academic year only.  Prior recipients may reapply.  A separate application is required.  Contact the Department of English for more information. James Vernon Jolly.  Special preference shall be given to sight impaired applicants, followed by applicants with other disabilities in the event there are no sight-impaired applicants.  The scholarship is for one academic year only.  Prior recipients may apply.  Selected by Special Financial Services committee.

Linda J. Kanipe Endowed Scholarship Fund for Chemistry Teachers Open to sophomores, juniors or seniors enrolled full-time and majoring in Chemistry.  Minimum 3.0 GPA required.  Must also have declared intention to become Chemistry teacher at the secondary or college level.  This scholarship may be renewable.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

John Michael "Jack" Karnes.  For student athletes whose eligibility has expired but who have not completed their degree requirements.  Former student athletes within 30 hours of graduation with minimum 2.0 GPA are eligible to apply for the scholarship.  Selected by the Athletic Department.

Stella Dyar Kelly.  Open to all students; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Mary Earle King.  Open to all.  This scholarship is for one year.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Melva Moody Koonce.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Lauderdale County Medical Auxiliary.  Junior or senior nursing major from Lauderdale County (Alabama) who has a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrates financial need.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Franklin Lenfesty/American Chemical Society.  Incoming freshmen and transfer students majoring in Professional Chemistry. Selected by Department of Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene and renewable if certain criteria are met. Apply through Department of Chemistry by February 1.

Richard Glenn Lentz.  Open to full-time students pursuing degrees in the Departments of English or History, or in programs of study in Journalism or Media Studies.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

George Lindsey.  Sophomore Communications and Theater major; apply through Communications Department for the following year.

Listerhill Employees Credit Union/UNA Alumni.  Open to all students who have demonstrated potential for success through grades and college entrance examination scores. Preference to children of employees or children of members of Listerhill Employees Credit Union. This scholarship is for one year only, but prior recipients may reapply.

Margie Rose Looney Memorial.  Awarded in alternate years to full-time students from Athens High School and/or West Limestone High School (Alabama), who have a "C" or better average and have indicated an interest in pursuing degrees in the College of Business. Assistance offered for freshman academic year at UNA. Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Morgan Loyd.  Education major; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Frank B. Mallonee.  Pre-law students nominated by Department of History and Political Science. Preference given to rising seniors who are Pre-law majors.  This scholarship is for one year, but prior recipients may reapply.

Elizabeth G. Mann.  Awarded to an entering freshman with outstanding leadership and strong scholastic performance during high school years through interview process.

Claudia Jeanette Marsh.  Recipients should be full-time students who have demonstrated success through grades and college entrance examinations. Preference given to recipients who earned their high school diplomas through a GED program. Each scholarship is for one academic year only. Prior recipients may reapply during subsequent years.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Charles N Martin, Jr.  $1000/year scholarships for residents of rural Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Walker, or Winston counties in Alabama; Alcorn, Benton, Itawamba, Marshall, Prentiss, and Tishomingo counties in Mississippi; Giles, Hardin, Lawrence, McNairy, and Wayne counties in Tennessee. Other criteria: ACT, 18-25; 2.25 GPA on high school core; financial need.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Francie Martin.  Biology or Science majors. Selected by UNA Scholarship Committee.

John C. Martin Leadership  This scholarship is available to students who have completed a minimum of 48 hours at UNA prior to the year for which the scholarship will be awarded and have a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the time of application. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life.  Deadline to apply is March 1.

Joseph A. and Genevieve C. Matthews. Recipients shall be graduates of one of the following Alabama high schools, in order of preference: 1) Fairview High School, Cullman or Walker High School, Jasper;  2) Lamer County High School, Vernon.  Recipients shall be full-time students, selected on the basis of academic merit and leadership service, not on the basis of financial need.

Reuben Warren "Button" Matthews. To assist deserving young men and women at the University of North Alabama. Preference will be given to a full-time student who has achieved his/her high school diploma through a GED program.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

James Ray McCorkle. Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Gilbert R. Melson.  Open to all students.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Celestine Martin Mitchell.  Awarded to deserving students with preference to students from (1) Lauderdale County, or (2) Lawrence County, Alabama. Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Ellie Richardson Mitchell.  Awarded to deserving students who are Music majors. Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the Music Department.

William H. Mitchell.  Awarded to full-time new freshman with an ACT score or 25 or more. The recipient must qualify for Federal Student Financial Assistance. Renewable if 2.5 GPA is maintained.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Judy Mosely.  Elementary Education majors; preference given to Sulligent HS graduate.  Selected by the Office of Education.

Frank Mosier.  Awarded to a graduating Senior majoring in Drama and Speech who enrolls in graduate studies in Drama upon graduation from UNA.  Selected by the UNA Communications and Theater Department by February 1.

Betty Johnson Mullins - Festival of Trees.  Open to full-time students who demonstrate exceptional leadership abilities and have a minimum GPA of 2.75.  This scholarship is for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply for this scholarship during subsequent years.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Muscle Shoals District Service League.  Open to students with disabilities, who show evidence of financial need, and whose eligibility has been pre-determined by the Adult Vocational Rehabilitation Service.  Renewable if a 2.50 GPA is maintained as a full-time student up to a total of eight semesters (Fall and Spring only) or until recipient receives an undergraduate degree at UNA, whichever occurs sooner.  Special application is available through Student Financial Services.  The deadline to apply is April 1 for the following year.

Muscle Shoals TVA Federally Employed Women.  Awarded to a deserving student.  Selected by Muscle Shoals TVA Federal Employee Women Scholarship Committee.

Muse Scholarship.  Deserving Math majors.  Renewable with a 2.75 GPA.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Ramona Brown Nelson.  Junior or senior preparing for careers in health or health-related work. Preference given to students who plan careers as athletic trainers, in physiology, or in medicine.  Selected by the Athletics Department.

Northwest Alabama Cancer Center.  Science or Nursing majors; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA.  Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

E. B. Norton.  Deserving full-time students who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need.

Virginia Bayless O'Connell Honors Endowment.  Recipients shall be enrolled as full-time students in the University Honors Program and have demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship is for one year.  Prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by a committee appointed by the President in consultation with the Director of the University Honors Program.

Patrons' Art.  Open to all students who declare Art as major.  Selected by the Department of Art.

Donald H. Patterson Endowed Memorial Scholarship. Open to all students. Awarded to deserving young men and women at the University of North Alabama. This scholarship is for one academic year only. Prior recipients may reapply for this scholarship during subsequent years.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Huston Patton, Jr. Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Renewable with a "B" average.

Pilot Club of Florence.  Full time Nursing majors starting their 3rd year in the School of Nursing.  Preference given to student from Colbert and Lauderdale counties in Alabama.  This scholarship is for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply for this scholarship during subsequent years.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Elliott and Bonnie Pood.  One scholarship is for Communication majors with preference to Organizational Communication majors.  The recipient is selected by a Communications Dept. committee.  A second scholarship is for a Freshmen or Sophomore student enrolled in a Military Science course and not currently receiving an ROTC scholarship.   The recipient must be enrolled in a Military Science course in the spring semester and have at least an overall 2.0 GPA.  A Military Science panel will select the recipient.  Both scholarships are for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply.

Geneva Hill and Martin & Mable Cooper Posey.  Open to all students with preference to students who reside in Madison County, Alabama. This scholarship is for one year but prior recipients may reapply for subsequent year.  Selected by the Office of Admissions.

Morton Prouty, Jr.  Children of employees of Midcoast Energy Resources (formally Atrion).  Nominations by Midcoast Energy Resources.

Chris Quillen Memorial.  Recipients shall be students majoring in one of the Entertainment Industry programs.  High academic achievement shall not be a criteria for selection.  Preference shall be given to applicants who demonstrate the need for financial assistance to undertake their internships.  This scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may reapply for subsequent years.  Selected by the Music Department.

Henry Grady Richards.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Charles W. Richmond.  Full-time students majoring in Chemistry. The scholarship is for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply.  Recipients will be selected by faculty members of the Chemistry Department.

Paul Risner. Recipients shall be full-time graduate students in the College of Education. Selected by a committee as recommended by the Dean of the College of Education. The scholarship is for one academic year. Prior recipients may apply.

Robbins, Crews and Associates.  Open to all.  This scholarship is for one year but students may reapply for subsequent years.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Martha Rose and Stanley Robbins.  Open to all students. Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

T.M. Rogers, Jr.  Awarded to marketing majors.  Selected by UNA College of Business.

James Earl Romine.  Preference to full-time students with a parent who is a law enforcement officer from Colbert, Franklin, or Lauderdale counties in Alabama. Otherwise, preference to son or daughter of law enforcement officer or to a criminal justice major.  Selected by a special committee.

Schilling Foundation UNA Alumni.  Entering freshmen who plan to enter a Christian vocation such as ministry, religious education, church music ministry, church administration and youth work. Renewable with a 2.0 GPA. Selected by the UNA Alumni Scholarship Committee.

D. Mitchell Self.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA.  Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Renewable with a 2.0 cumulative GPA.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Sheffield Rotary Club.   Deserving full-time Nursing major.  Selected by the College of Nursing.

Gladys Shepard.  Freshman majoring in Theater. Apply through UNA Communications and Theatre by February 1 for the following year.  Selected b y the Communications and Theater Department.

Sneed Family.   Preference to full-time Juniors and Seniors in the College of Education.  This scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Sociology and Criminal Justice Department.  Full-time Sociology/Criminal Justice major nominated by department.

Clifford & Bessie Soedt.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Renewable with a cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Lindsey Stricklin Memorial.  Awarded to graduate English majors or undergraduate English majors (English option or Language Arts option) with a minimum 3.0 cumulative average (3.5 cumulative average on the graduate level) who demonstrate evidence of financial need.  Preference to members of Sigma Tau Delta, former students of Pinhook School and residents of Lutts, Tennessee.  This scholarship is for one academic year only, but prior recipients may apply during subsequent years.  Selected by the Department of English. A separate application is required. Contact the Department of Education for more information. The deadline to apply is December 1 of each year.

M.M. Striplin, Jr.  Awarded to full-time students majoring in Chemistry. Nominees recommended by the Department of Chemistry. This scholarship is for one year only but prior recipients may reapply.

James H. Tanner Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.  Awarded to students who have financial need and a potential for success through grades and college entrance examination scores. First preference to student athletes who are no longer eligible for athletic scholarships. Second preference to students majoring in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

Tennessee River, Inc. Employee.  Open to all students.

Tennessee Valley Historical Society.  UNA High School History Scholarship Competition is open to area high school seniors. The Tennessee Valley Historical Society awards three scholarships annually; one semester's tuition for first place, one-half semester's tuition for second place and one quarter's semester tuition for third place. Not limited to history majors.

Lucas Terry Memorial.  Open to deserving full-time students in good academic standing.  Recipients must be children from foster homes or single-parent families, with preference given to applicants with demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship is for full tuition and fees for a total of four years (eight semesters), provided the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress and enrolls for at least twelve hours each semester.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Times Daily/ New York Times Foundation.  For deserving Communications and Theatre major.  This scholarship is for one academic year but prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the Department.

Bonnie Dell Treece.  Open to all students who have financial need.  Preference will be given to students whose career goals include working with individuals who have disabilities.  This scholarship is for one year only, but prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Ted Treece Endowed Scholarship.  Open to full-time students who have financial need.  Preference given to students who are members of the UNA golf team.  This scholarship is for one year only but prior recipients may reapply.  Selected by the University Athletic Department.

TVA Muscle Shoals Chapter of the National Management Association Endowed Scholarship Fund.  Selected by Student Financial Services Committee and appointed by the President. For full-time Business majors with preference to Management majors. Minimum GPA 3.0. Prior recipients may reapply for this scholarship during subsequent years.

UNA Memorial Scholarships.  Over the years the University of North Alabama has received many gifts in memory or in honor of different individuals who held the University in high regard. Many of these gifts have been designated for scholarships, and they are invested in a perpetual scholarship fund known as the UNA Memorial Scholarship. Open to all students; awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA.

United Daughters of the Confederacy (Alabama Division).  Alabama residents with lineal descendants of worthy Confederates or collateral descendants who are members of the Children of the Confederacy or of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Special application available in Student Financial Services.

Susan Kirkman Vaughn.  Full-time junior or senior history major; minimum 3.0 GPA.  Renewable with a 3.0 grade point average.  Briefly discuss your academic and vocational plans and goals.  Selected by the History Department.

Clark Warren.   Open to full-time students who are Marketing majors (i) entering their junior years with a declared major in Marketing, (ii) were deemed marginally eligible for enrollment as incoming freshmen at UNA based upon high school grades, college entrance examination scores and other applicable criteria.  This scholarship is for one year only, but may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee in the case of recipients who (i) successfully complete their junior year, (ii) continue to meet the criteria, (iii) reapply for their senior year.  Selected by a special committee from the Department of Marketing.

Eula Ethel White Memorial.  Graduates of Brilliant High School, Brilliant, Alabama, or lineal descendants of Eula Ethel White, regardless of where they attended high school.  Preference shall be given to applicants with a "C" average who may not qualify for financial assistance based upon scholastic merit.  This scholarship is for one academic year.  Prior recipients may apply.

Ora Broyles Wikle.  Preference given to full-time students who reside in Madison County, Alabama, who demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is for one academic year only and is renewable with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Albert E Williams.  Business majors.

David Brian Williams.  Awarded to deserving students with preference to active members of Highland Baptist Church, Florence, Alabama. Prior recipients may reapply.

John T Willis.  Open to all students.  Awarded on the basis of grade level classification and cumulative UNA GPA. Priority is given to upperclassmen.  Selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

Lucile Coltharp Wilson.  Sophomore, junior or senior Human Environmental Science major. Selected by the Department of Human Environmental Sciences.
