How to join Twitter

  1. Visit Twitter.com

  2. Click on ‘Get Started – Join!’

  3. Fill out the form
    1. Pick a username that isn’t too obscure like ‘radGuy4Uall’
    2. Rather pick something that helps define you or your interests like ‘UNA_Admissions’
    3. Click ‘Create My Account’


  4. Are your friends on Twitter
    1. Let twitter check your address book for contacts already on Twitter
    2. or, click ‘Skip this step’ to do this at a later time


  5. Recommendations
    1. Check the one’s you’d like to follow.
    2. Remember you can ‘Unfollow’ at any time.
    3. Click 'Finish'


  6. Customize your profile
    1. Click on 'Settings' at top of page
    2. Go through the tabs and customize your profile.
    3. Account – you can update your username at anytime
    4. Devices – set up your mobile phone to send/receive updates. keep in mind that standard text fees do apply.
    5. Notices – Set preferences on how you’re notified.
    6. Picture – Upload a profile picture. Maximum size of 700k. JPG, GIF, PNG.
    7. Design – Pick a background and customize profile colors


  7. Make your first tweet
    1. It doesn't have to be anything profound, maybe just a summary of the topics you plan to Tweet about.


  8. Find followers
    1. Browse directly to their profile & click ‘Follow’
    2. Use search.twitter.com to find people talking about common interests
      1. Example: Search for “University of North Alabama”
