About UPC


The mission of the University Program Council of the University of North Alabama is to enhance the cultural and educational capital of students through planning innovative events that promote unity, entertainment, service and tradition.

UPC meets on Mondays at 3:30 in the GUC. All meetings are open to all students. The Council is led by the 2nd Vice President of the Student Government Association. There are 6 chairs and committees within UPC. They are as follows:


Spirit Chair

  • Homecoming and Spring Fling Spirit Challenges – this person would be responsible for the planning and implementation of all aspects of the spirit challenge. The person would design the packet, communicate with the groups, and work with the UPC advisor to select judges and auditors. He or she would order and pay for the awards given to winners.
  • Cooperative programming with Athletics – From time to time, Athletics requests that SGA partner with them to put on certain events. This person would be the liaison between SGA/UPC and athletics, and coordinate any activities that are in partnership with athletics. This includes but is not limited to pep rallies and tailgating.
  • SOS Events – This person would be responsible for coordinating SOS events, working with the other chairs as necessary.

Live Acts Chair

  • Spring Concert - This person would be responsible for the planning and implementation of Spring Concert.
  • Miscellaneous Musical Acts- This person would coordinate any other musical acts UPC wanted to bring to campus, like Florez or Recycled Percussion. This person could find and propose acts to bring if they are within his or her budget.
  • Other Live Acts – Comedians, Magicians, Hypnotists, etc.

Movies and Novelties

  • Movies – This person would be responsible for planning movies brought during Welcome Week, Homecoming, Spring Fling, and various other times throughout the year.
  • Novelties – This person would be responsible for researching and overseeing all novelties brought during Welcome Week, Homecoming, Spring Fling or any other time. This includes working with RSOs to provide novelties, like the ISO Henna Tattoos during Homecoming Week 2008. He or she will work with the UPC Advisor to contract with the vendors.
  • Give aways – This person would be in charge of obtaining any give aways done at any time during the year. For instance, t-shirts and bags during Welcome Week, Ice Cream bowls at homecoming. This person would work with the other chairs when they need a giveaway at their event.

Service

  • Step Show and Step Sing – This person is responsible for the planning of Step Show and Step Sing.
  • Service Days during Activity Weeks – Working with the Assistant Director of Leadership and Volunteerism (currently Jennifer Culler), this person would help to plan service days for Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Spring Fling.
  • Other service opportunities – This person can coordinate other service opportunities as he or she sees fit, or if called upon by Jennifer Culler.

Culture and Education

  • Cultural events – this person would work with the UPC advisor on planning cultural events such as the MLK Walk, the Dalai Lama Documentary, Civil Rights Tour, etc. The person would have the freedom to propose events they are interested in to the advisor and UPC.
  • Education – This person would be responsible for any educational programming done by UPC or the UPC advisor during the year. Examples include Save-A-Life Tour/Alcohol Awareness week, Disability Week (partnering with Disability Services), etc.

PR and Evaluation

  • Public Relations – This person is responsible for promoting all events. This includes designing, sending to print, and distributing all promotional materials.
  • Evaluation – Working with the UPC Advisor, this person is responsible for evaluating all events. This may include paper or online evaluations.
