Academic-Athletic Mentoring Program

The Academic-Athletic Mentoring Program (AAMP) provides qualified student mentors who will support and encourage student-athletes to establish and achieve their academic goals.

This mission is accomplished through group mentoring sessions that, over the course of a semester will include, but are not limited to, a variety of the following:

  • Conversations and activities involving time management, resource management, and study skills and strategies.
  • Exploration, conversation, and activities to build awareness and skills in the use of student resources. These may include, but are not limited to:
    • Collier Library
    • The Center for Writing Excellence
    • The Academic Resource Center
    • The Advising and Testing Center
    • Career Services
  • Conversations involving strategies in how to approach faculty members in a professional manner.
  • Conversations on academic status, attendance, and strategies for improvement given the varying contexts of different classes.
  • Group study time enhanced by supportive, empathetic, and problem-solving conversation as needed.

Athlete participants in the AAMP Program are selected by the Athletic Director, Mr. Mark Linder. If you are a UNA athlete who would like to participate in the program, contact your head coach or Mr. Linder.

Mentors in the AAMP Program are selected and hired by the AAMP Coordinator, Dr. Robert Koch Jr., and by the Assistant Coordinators, Dr. Kelly Latchaw and Dr. Nick Mauriello. If you are a student who is interested in becoming a mentor, review the call for mentors provided here (PDF format). Complete the application, and submit it electronically to Ms. Becky Brazeel, Admin. Assistant, Center for Writing Excellence, or to Dr. Koch.
