Frequently Asked Questions
When are you open?
During Fall and Spring Semesters we are open
Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:00 & 6:00-9:00
Friday 8:00-4:00, Saturday 10:00-5:00 and
Sunday 2:00-9:00
When should I come in?
You should visit us as soon as possible. Writing is a process that takes time and practice, and you cannot succeed at developing your skills if you wait till 2 am the night before the assignment is due in order to start. visit us well in advance of the due date, not the day you must turn it in.
What do I need to bring?
If your professor gave you an assignment sheet, wrote about the assignment in the syllabus, or if you have notes from a class discussion about the assignment, or the assignment is in your textbook, you should bring them. Bring a pen or pencil or two, and some blank notebook paper. Most importantly, bring any notes or drafts of the assignment.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are not required at the Writing Center; we operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, some times are busier than others, and there will usually be only one tutor available at a time throughout most of the day, so a scheduled appointment with a specific tutor or professor will guarantee you a slot. Appointments must be made at least 2 days in advance, and must be made in person at the center. Make sure you are on time for your appointment; if you are late, and someone else needs help, you will lose your appointment time.
What does this cost?
The University Writing Center is a free service and resource available to all members of the UNA community.
Will you fix my paper for me?
We'll do better than that. We will work with you to teach you how to resolve writing issues and correct grammar errors for yourself. We are not responsible for your grade. We only make suggestions and offer advice.
Who are you?
The Writing Center is staffed by faculty who have expertise and experience in writing instruction and by students (sophomore through graduate levels) who are trained or who are in training with faculty writing experts.
How will my professor know that I visited the Writing Center?
We provide clients and professors with tutor session forms that show the time and date of the tutorial, along with the material covered during the tutorial session.
