Faculty Development

The UNA Center for Writing Excellence provides two forms of support for faculty professional development. First, it offers presentations and workshops on issues related to Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) and Writing In the Disciplines (WID). Second, it sponsors, jointly with Collier Library and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, a one-week writing and research retreat for faculty to work on publications and presentations.

Writing Across the Curriculum & Writing in the Disciplines

The Center for Writing Excellence provides faculty support for Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) and Writing in the Disciplines (WID). This includes any aspect of writing in a course.

WAC / WID workshops, presentations, or individual consultations are provided when requested by a faculty member. For more information, contact the CWE director.

Past presentations have included the following resources:

Faculty Research and Writing Retreat

In 2010, the CWE co-sponsored two writing retreats for faculty in May and August. These week-long retreats began at 9 am and ended at 4 pm, and met in the basement of Collier Library.

During these meetings, faculty worked on their research papers and presentations in a small community forum. The CWE director and a Collier Library research librarian provided writing and research support on an as-needed basis, and the group shared their daily goals in the morning and successes in the afternoon. Meals were provided by the Office of the VPAA.

At least one such retreat will be held each year, pending funding, either during the third week of May or the second week of August. For more information, contact the CWE director.
