New Faculty Members

Dear New Faculty Member:

Welcome to the University of North Alabama! The Office of Academic Affairs and Provost is pleased to host New Faculty Orientation to welcome you to the UNA community.  As you begin this new chapter in your career, we invite you to register for the event; to help us better plan for your orientation, registration by August 5th is requested.  The agenda for the 2018 Orientation is as follows and is posted on the Academic Affairs website (forthcoming).

Wednesday, August 15: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Includes continental breakfast and lunch
Location: GUC Loft

Thursday, August 16: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 
Includes continental breakfast
Location: Stevens Hall 102

Dress is casual each day; attendance is expected.

UNA Essentials:

  1. Attend New Faculty Orientation
    Register by August 5, 2018 at
  2. Schedule Directory Pictures
    Please schedule an appointment at Shannon Wells is the photographer, and the studio is located in the basement of Rogers Hall.
  3. Obtain UNA Mane Card
    To receive your Mane Card, stop by the Mane Card office located in The Commons. You must bring a photo ID (such as a driver’s license) in order to receive your Mane Card.
  4. Obtain Parking Permit
    Please complete the online form at and then visit the Transportation Services Desk in the Guillot University Center to retrieve your hangtag.
  5. Computer Access – UNA Portal Access
    Login to UNAPortal at and click on the email icon. Your login to UNAPortal is only your username (not your full email address). Your username should be your first initial followed by your full last name. Your username is automatically created by the system. Your original password will be RoarLions!mmddyyyy where mmddyyyy = your eight digit birthday (you will want to change this as soon as possible).
  6. Meet with Department Chair
    Check with your department office to see if there is important information and/or documents waiting for you. You should contact your chair or department representative early in the summer for copies of the syllabi of record for each course you are assigned to teach.  Ask your department chair or department administrative assistant about computer equipment and keys for your use.

We will offer continued opportunities throughout the academic year for you to meet your colleagues and discuss with them issues and topics related to teaching, scholarship, and service.
