Science, Nature Appreciation and Integrated Learning (S.N.A.I.L.)

The purpose/goal of the Science, Nature Appreciation and Integrated Learning (SNAIL) society is to offer its members hands-on learning opportunities in the field with faculty/experts. It is a great opportunity to show and hopefully excite students about local natural history, conservation, and ecology. SNAIL meets once or twice a month to go on local field trips with faculty.

So far the group has gone on field trips with faculty from two departments (Biology, Physics and Earth Science) and has covered topics such as geology, fossil hunting, the planetarium, exploring UNA specimen collection, electrofishing, small-mammal trapping, black-lighting for nocturnal insects, and campus “ecology” walks.
