Fastenal Company and State Farm Insurance Sponsor UNA’s Center for Professional Selling

UNA College of Business Center for Professional Selling

The University of North Alabama's College of Business is bringing practical experience directly into the classroom through the Center for Professional Selling (CPS). The CPS was launched two years ago by its Director, Jerome Gafford. UNA is proud to be one of only 35 universities in the United States to offer this degree program with instructional facilities available in a Sales Recording Lab. As one of only a small percentage of universities offering a program in sales, UNA is a leader in developing students who will be successful sales professionals.

The CPS has attracted strong interest from employers. Two of the center’s first sponsors, Fastenal Company and State Farm Insurance, are Gold Level Sponsors that have committed to annual financial donations to the CPS. As part of their partnership with the CPS, representatives from the companies are invited to speak to classes about their company and introduce students to career opportunities within their organizations. Faculty partner with the sponsors to develop case studies based on realistic situations faced in their businesses. Company representatives then review the students’ performance so that the students can gain valuable insights to the skills needed to be successful sales professionals.

UNA is appreciative of the support of Fastenal and State Farm. Joey Walker (District Manager) and Casey Miller (Regional Manager) have directed the support from Fastenal. Fastenal has employed seven sales students since fall 2013. Jeremy Britt and Elease Oliver (Sales Managers for the north Alabama regions) have coordinated the support from State Farm. Approximately 200 State Farm agents work in this region and are interested in recruiting students for both full and part time opportunities in their agencies. Three State Farm agents hired UNA students this spring.

These partnerships provide fantastic career insight and opportunities for UNA’s sales students. With the success already generated by the Center for Professional Selling, UNA is positioned to be a leader in developing sales talent that can add value to your organizations.
