Canvas Support for Students

Basic requirements for online classes at UNA are

  • Windows 7 or later
  • Mac OSX 10.6
  • Linux - chromeOS (Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor cannot be installed on a Chromebook)
  • Broadband internet access (512 Kbp/s or higher)

Need Technical Support?  Try this First:

Be sure you are logging into https://una.instructure.com.
  1. Use your UNAPortal username and password. Do not use your full email address.
  2. Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release. We highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in.   3. If you can't see video or content, you may need to change your browser's privacy settings using the "Browser Privacy Settings" section of Which browsers does Canvas support.
  4. Clear your cache: http://guides.instructure.com/s/2204/m/4214/c/34074 
  5. Check to see if you can login to UNAPortal. If you are unable to access your Portal account the problem may be with your user name/password. If you need to reset your password, email helpdesk@una.edu.
  6. Can't find a solution here and still need help? If you are having trouble inside Canvas, go to the page/item where you are having the problem and click Help, Report a Problem.

How do I get started in Canvas?

You can login to Canvas by going to https://una.instructure.com, following the Canvas link on the UNA website, or using the Mobile App.   If you aren't sure how to start, take a look at the Canvas Resources (Orientation Course,Guides, Video Guides, Community Forums) and common issues below.   If you need technical support, take a look at the Try This First section below or submit a help ticket in Canvas by going to the Help menu, then Report a Problem. UNA Canvas support should reply within one business day. Please note that you will receive support responses at your UNA email address, not inside Canvas. Correspondence received during university closures, holidays, and weekends may not be addressed until the next regularly scheduled business day at UNA.

Quick Guide

  1. Go to the Assignment
  2. Click Submit Assignment
  3. In the Text Entry window, Click the Embed Kaltura Media button
  4. You should now see the Kaltura Embed Media Window
  5. Click the Actions button in the upper right
    1. If you have media to upload, select Media Upload
    2. If you need to record, you can select CaptureSpace
  6. Once you have media in your My Media, you can select it
  7. You may embed your media as Large, Medium, or Small.   Unless specified by your professor, this is up to you.
  8. Add any additional comments to your instructor in the Comments box
  9. Click Submit Assignment
