The Department of Secondary Education offers undergraduate programs that lead to Alabama Professional Educator Certification in the following teaching fields:

  • Music-Choral
  • Music-Instrumental

Once you declare your major in Secondary Education and choose a concentration, your advisor can let you know when you will be allowed to apply for the Educator Preparation Program.  To be accepted, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.75.  For more information about the requirements, click here

The Department of Secondary Education offers an Alternative A Master's Program that leads to Alabama Professional Educator Certification in the following teaching fields:

  • Biology
  • Business Marketing
  • Chemistry
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • English Language Arts
  • General Science
  • General Social Science
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Music-Choral
  • Music-Instrumental
  • Physical Education
  • Spanish

To be in the Alternative Master's Program, the candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree and can be in any field.  The candidate will be encouraged to take the Praxis in the area of concentration they are planning to study.  The program consists of 45 credit hours and will also require an internship at the end of the program.  For more information about the requirements, click here

UNA offers a Traditional Master's Program that leads to Alabama Professional Educator Certification in the following teaching fields and instructional support areas:

In addition to the UNA course and program offerings, we are pleased to announce our recent partnership with the University of Alabama that will bring their Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Instructional Leadership to the UNA campus beginning fall 2010.
