Issues Under Committee Review

The following issues/policies are currently under review by Faculty Senate Committees or have been under review in the current academic year:

  • Leave of Absence statement
    • At the September 3, 2015 Senate meeting, a motion was made and approved to ask the Faculty Affairs Committee to review this statement with respect to time counted toward tenure and promotion.
    • At the April 2016 meeting, the committee presented a draft revision of the statement. A motion was made to postpone the item to let Senators take it back to their departments for further review. This motion passed.
    • At the November 2016 meeting, the committee presented a draft revision of the statement. A motion was made to send the document back to the committee to address concerns discussed in the meeting. This motion passed.
  • Sick Leave Policy
    • At the September 1, 2016 meeting, the Senate considered the Faculty Staff Welfare Committee's proposed policy that was in response to the draft policy approved by Senate in February 2016. The Senate voted to forward this policy to the Faculty Affairs Committee for review.
    • At the October 2016 meeting, the Senate approved a proposal from the Faculty Affairs Committee.
  • Revisions to Section 3.15 of the Faculty Handbook – Faculty Evaluation
    • At the September 2016 meeting, the Senate voted to send the proposed changes to this policy to the Faculty Affairs Committee.
    • At the October 2016 meeting, the recommended revisions from the Faculty Affairs Committee were approved (with minor edits).
    • At the January 2017 meeting, suggested revisions to section 3.15.1 and Appendix 3D (from the Course Evaluation Committee) were introduced. The discussion was postponed and Senate voted to send the revisions to the Academic Affairs Committee.
    • At the February 2017 meeting, President Brommer granted the committee's request to postpone this to the March meeting.
    • At the March 2017 meeting, the Academic Affairs Committee presented suggested revisions. The Senate voted to postpone these to the April meeting.
    • At the April 2017 meeting, the Senate voted to postpone this issue to the September 2017 meeting.
  • Revisions to Section 2.5 of the Faculty Handbook – Policies on Promotion and Tenure
    • At the September 2016 meeting, the Senate voted to send the proposed changes to this policy to the Faculty Affairs Committee.
    • At the November 2016 meeting, The Faculty Affairs Committee presented their suggested revisions to the proposed policy changes. Senate voted to postpone this to the January 2017 meeting.
    • At the January 2017 meeting, a motion was made for President Brommer to call a special work session to address the remaining issues with the proposed policy. This meeting was called for January 23 at 2:00 p.m.
    • At the special meeting on January 23, 2017, those in attendance reviewed the policy and suggested edits.
    • At the February 2017 meeting, Senate approved the policy as presented by Faculty Affairs, with minor revisions. The revisions can be found  in the February minutes.
    • The revisions were approved by the President. Renee Vandiver sent an email on February 21, 2017 notifying the faculty of the change to the Faculty Handbook.
