Mississippi native Jessica Nelson joined the UNA faculty in 2010. She holds an undergraduate degree in piano performance from Millsaps College and a masters of church music and liturgy from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Her primary teachers have included Joel Harrison, Elizabeth Moak, and Rachel Heard (piano) and Len Bobo, Billy Trotter, and Margaret McElwain Kemper (organ).
Jessica has been a participant-performer in piano and organ masterclasses in New York, Chicago, and Sewanee, TN with Isabelle Demers, David Schrader, Peter Richard Conte, and many others. She completed additional keyboard studies at the International Keyboard Institute and Festival and the Brevard Music Center.
Jessica was the organ scholar at the Chapel of St. John the Divine in Evanston, IL from 2007-2009. Prior to that appointment, she was assistant to the director of music at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, Jackson, MS and was an assistant conductor for the Mississippi Girlchoir.
She was a Sweat Performance Fellow at Millsaps College and was named a Lovelace Scholar of the Hymn Society in 2008. She was also the recipient of the 2009 Seabury-Western Music Prize.
Jessica is a member of the American Guild of Organists, The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, Mu Phi Epsilon, and was elected to the Order of Omega and Omicron Delta Kappa.
She is currently the organist/choirmaster and assistant for liturgy at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Tupelo, MS. At All Saints', she conducts the parish choir, a children's choir, and began a recital series in 2010.
