FLORENCE, Ala. – Leo, the University of North Alabama lion mascot, will look a bit different on the sidelines this fall. A lot different, actually. After an extensive makeover, the new Leo will make his first public appearance at a pep rally atabout 7:45 p.m. in front of Norton Auditorium.

Also making her first public appearance will be Leo’s trusty sidekick Una, who will join him on the sidelines this fall.

Leos Reunite

As the university’s two new mascots take to the sidelines this fall, UNA is planning a Homecoming reunion Oct. 3 for all alumni who have worn the Leo mascot uniform in years past. Former Leos should contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 256-765-4201 or cslyles@una.edu.

Limited-edition Leo and Una prints

The two new Leo and Una mascots are based on UNA’s recently unveiled mascot caricatures, created by UNA alumnus and professional artist Walt Vandiver. The caricatures were first shown in the summer 2009 issue of UNA Magazine.

Vandiver will autograph posters and limited-edition prints of the new Leo and Una at Homecoming Oct. 3. Signings will be at the Rogers Hall Alumni House from noon to 2:30 p.m. and then at the pre-game tent party on Spirit Hill at 3 p.m. Autographed posters are $12, and autographed and numbered limited-edition prints are $55.
